Guns across state lines?

Hello all. I live in eastern washington and I want to purchase a shotgun in Idaho from a gun show. I read the laws and they seem to indicate that this is illegal to simply buy from a dealer (gun show) in Idaho and not do a FFL transfer from said Idaho dealer to a WA dealer to me. Although I was talking to a FFL holder in my local club and he said it was legal and ok. Is this right or must I do a transfer through the states?

How about posting those laws that you read? I'll be happy to help you understand them. Yes, you can buy a long gun in another state, perfectly legally, unless you're unfortunate enough to live in a blue state with oppressive gun laws.

I apologise if I am starting to fragment this thread but to expand my 1st question, if you buy a gun over the internet , why do people have to or want to go through a FFL dealer. If you sell a gun off of the internet I cant see the seller being liable if he sells to a criminal. Private citizens selling and buying of course.

Private citizens in most places

can sell short guns to each other as long as they both have a residence in the same state. (notice how I wrote that) Most internet sales are between folks from different states and that's where the law gets crossed and an FFL at one or both ends is needed. In most states if you find an internet sale in your own state then yes you can do the sale with out an FFL. The only potential problem is with the shipping of the gun... often when you declair it with Fed-x they are going to want it shipped to an FFL, and then sometimes they want it shipped by an FFl. Then again, FFL's can just mail the gun using the U.S. postal service. Problem with using an FFL is not so much the paper work on the recieving end but that they all are going to charge $15-$50 for their time. I don't blame them for this, but it kind of changes the end price of the gun.
