It was off to the range today for some good ole' fun with the 450 smc I got in the mail (Thanks Triton). Along for company was my CZ 97B and a Para-Ordinance P-14 (courtesy of Dave the Head).
My results were as follows:
CZ 97B & Triton 230gr 450smc
velocity - 1142
- 1130
- 1127
Average KE - 655 ft lbs
P14 & Triton 230gr 450 smc
velocity - 1139
- 1133
- 1153
Average KE - 665 ft lbs
The 450 smc definately has some cojones to it, very stout recoil lots of noise, great fun. I had some feed reliability issues in the CZ 97 (which was competely stock) and it seemed to be shooting low, which might very well have been my fault. The P14 was completely stock and ran without a hitch.
Overall, it was a lot of fun to shoot the SMC and with time it might even be a viscious defense load (I doubt it's to shabby right now).
Also, I got the opportunity today to shoot a HK P7M8. This piece is an absolute piece of art: wicked accuracy, a beautiful trigger, and fine German workmanship at it's best. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it weren't so expensive and I weren't so poor. Check it out.
