There’s been another homicide in the District, the city's 10th since Friday.

Police said the victim, a man, was found shot about 1:30 this morning on Georgia Avenue NW near Gresham Place. He was taken to Washington Hospital Center and was pronounced dead about half an hour later.

The homicide comes one day after Police Chief Charles Ramsey said he would put up to 250 extra officers on the street to fight the wave of slayings in the District.

Nope, can't happen. Guns are banned in Washington.

Oh wait, I know... the guns were brought in from Virginia by gun manufacturers who sold them to little kids by using Eddie Eagle (aka "Joe Camel with feathers").

Just can't figure out why these murdering criminals keep victimizing the unarmed citizenry. Didn't we just send them a powerful anti-violence message?

according to court verdits the police are not even required to respond to your calls. One was in district of columbia. Two women were upstairs and heard roommate downstairs being attact. They called police and were assured the police were on their way. About 30 minutes later the screaming stopped and thinking the police arrived the girls went downstairs. The police never came but the intruders were still there and for the next 14 hours the were held captive, raped, beaten, forced to commit sexual acts on each other and the perps. The three women sued the District of Columbia for failing to protect them but DC's highest court exonerated the District and its police, saying that it is a fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen.
Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d (D.C. Ct of Ap., 1981).

I have info on many more cases but I think you get the idea.

The Supreme Court ruled the same way in DeShaney v. Winnebago blah blah in 1989 . It states " The state has no obligation to protect a person from another person or persons" .I can e-mail the link to anyone interested .

Oh, goodness..... 10 murders higher than last year this time. We need stricter gun laws, no one can have a hand gun, registration. Oh wait this is DC they already have that. What's wrong with this picture, can any of you DC Demo's tell me? Hummmmm maybe we need to rethink this a little. Wonder why it's all happening on the west side of town. Maybe we need a multimillion dollar tax-payer supported federal study to figure that out. Bite my big old bu** mr.Bill! Oh, nooooooooooooooooo!

I printed out a copy of the page where I got my info on how the police are not required to protect you and brought it to work. It really opened some eyes! One of the girls is going to apply for her permit! The other one is a Canadian who thinks we should have the same laws as canada. She hasn't said anything along those lines since.

The clearance rate on homicicdes in the District is currently running about 30%. If you kill someone in DC, you have a better than 2 to 1 chance of getting away with it. The cops will/can not protect you and they are unlikely to bring the perp to justice, yet you cannot have a handgun to protect yourself with. DC is a third world country. M2
