I wanted to check prices on gunbroker so I signed up now I have gotten a bill for a $2 id verification fee that is billed by some third party, does anyoneknow anything about this? I am not about to give my credit card number out for something i know nothing about.

It's how gunbroker operates; it basically verifies that you have a valid CC, so they have an enforcement mechanism if you are a winning bidder in an auction but then default on the purchase.

$2 fee

I just copied the following from gunbroker's site:

"Members that use an email address from a company that offers free email addresses like Hotmail or Yahoo will be charged an activation fee of $1.00. Persons whose registration information is flagged as suspicious by our fraud prevention systems may be charged a $2.00 fee to go through a detailed security check."

Maybe your account was flagged as being suspicious.

This must be something relatively new. I've never paid anything to activate my Gunbroker account. But, I've been a member from about when it started.

I became a member in 2005 and there wasn't a charge if you registered as a buyer, but there was a $1 charge to register as a seller.

When I joined, they required a $1 fee if you registered with a "free" email address such as Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. Since I did not want to put my CC on file, I sent cash. However, they do not let you bid unless you have a CC # on file.

For these purchases, I'd prefer to work w/ checks or MO's.

Since when?

I buy on GB frequently and have not nor will I ever place my CC on my account. My CC has nothing to do with the transaction with the seller or Gunbroker as...my cash payment and signed copy from my FFL are all that is relevant. If i do not pay, they have recourse...they can lock my account.

I don't know when it started, but I tried to bid on an item about a month ago that the seller accepted checks or USPS M.O.s and got a message they couldn't accept my bid because I had no CC on file.

I think I joined gunbroker in 2009, and it was required then.

Some of you probably have been on GB for a lot longer, and may have been grandfathered.
