I've bought a number of guns using GunBroker.com but never a revolver. I see no problems in buying a new revolver that way but are there special problems that prior usage could bring to a used revolver sale? I'm looking at a Security Six where the pictures look pretty good but could there be serious problems with the mechanisms? Thanks

Could be, but usually not unless the gun is seriously misrepresented. See if the seller has a return policy.

There is a risk factor ordering anything used online,,,
But most sellers offer a return under certain conditions.
I have purchased 4 revolvers through gunbroker,,,
All of them gave me the same guarantee,,,
Return within 7-10 days if unfired.
That "if unfired" is the risk right there.
You better be able to evaluate the firearm quickly,,,
And you have to do it without shooting it.
I used the information in the "sticky" at the top of the revolver forum,,,
Very good information and very well laid out,,,
I learned a lot from studying it.
I contacted all four sellers beforehand with specific questions,,,
So far I've been fortunate and haven't been burned.

I've bought several used revo's on GB. I did get burned once on a S&W 624 that was rated as "98% wood, 97% metal" condition. The seller was a large, reputable FFL in Kentucky with over 4,000 sales on GB. When I received it the action was gummed up to the point that the trigger could not be pulled in DA. The extractor star was stuck to the cylinder with old oil turned to varnish.
I had to send it to S&W and pay for the repair ($140), and the gun by the way was subject to recall for bad cylinder steel. (!)
How that gun could pass through their hands without someone noticing that it didn't work is beyond me.

I've had zero problems with any used revolvers I've bought online, and I can't say the same thing about guns I've bought, both new and used, in person. There is always a chance you get a dud, no matter how you buy one. The ones I have really gotten a great deal on were almost all online, and most of the times when I won them, I was thinking, "Why is this going so cheap?", and "What am I missing?" because of the low bids. Every one of those really cheap guns were fine. As long as there is a return policy, and their feedback is ok, I wouldn't worry too much.
