Gun violence?

What exactly is "gun violence" and how does it differ from "regular" violence? I read a post on one of these firearms forums were the poster used the term in reviewing a movie. Are we not falling into a liberal media trap by adopting this phrase? To differentiate between violence committed with a firearm and violence committed some other way is to lend credence to the view that the firearm has some say how it is used. Where are the terms "knife violence", "basball bat violence", and "fist violence"? Objects are not violent, intentions are. Swinging a bat is not a violent act, swinging a bat deliberately at someone's head IS a violent act. I realize I am preaching to the choir but let us strive not use this term as it plays into the anti's hands.

It is my understanding that the term "gun violence" is used by the anti-self defense folks to evoke an emotional reaction in the target audience. It is used to lead the audience to conclude that any use of a firearm is unlawful, distasteful and results in the breakdown of social order.

What is not said is that not all use of firearms is bad or unlawful. Woman shoots rapist in self defense is good. Cop shooting dangerous felon is good. Homeowner protecting his children from kidnapper is good. Storeowner shooting armed robber is good. In all these scenarios, a gun was used and someone is shot. However, the end result is that a greater evil has been prevented and perhaps a life saved.

"Gun Violence" is a term of the genre like "Cop killer bulltes" or "Saturday Night Special." It use is to stir emotions instead of logic.

"Gun violence"
"High capacity magazine"
"Gun show loophole"
"Common-sense legislation"
"Plastic guns"

All examples of how we allow the liberals to shape the debate in America. How about:

"Criminal acts"
"Standard magazine"
"Private transaction"
"Unconstitutional laws"
"Fantasy"

And just what is the definition of "is?"
