The last few years I have began doing a considerable amount of firearms trading. I habe a short list of handguns, rifles and shotguns in which i know the general value of and can confidently trade without taking a loss. However, ive been hoping to find some sort of "gun value" guide book that might contain approximate values of common makes & models of handguns, rifles and shotguns that might assist me in buying and trading guns that im not that familiar with. Does anyone have anything in mind that mit be helpfull for this? Thanks in advance, the site hasnt let me down yet.

2011 (or 2012 when it comes out) Standard Catalog of FIREARMS. by Gun Digest Books.

The Collectors Price and Reference Guide.

If you can't find one local you can call to order one @ 888-457-2873

Softback is usually $35-$40 and can be found at many larger gun and book stores. Mines outdated (2008), but I think I bought mine at B. Daltons Books.

I have a copy of S. P. Fjestad's "Blue Book of Gun Values". It is the 32nd edition and copyright 2011. Therefore, it should be relatively current. I have found every common weapon in it I have searched.

I do not claim to be and expert; therefore I am not rating the book. I believe most evaluative books will warn prices are simply a guide. The biggest issue is condition. This book does attempt to show a few examples (pictures) and ratings as to condition. With condition, there always seems to be various opinions.

The blue Book is a great help, but if you have a a laptop with internet acess as you travel around, I would see what gunbroker has listed. That seems to be what most shops are using.

+1, but remember the Great Gunbroker Caveat:

It's best to use the "Advanced" search feature to find auctions in which the gun actually sold. Pay the most attention to auctions with low starting prices and lots of bids.

GB is full of sellers who list their wares at ridiculously inflated prices in hopes of snaring a sucker. Ignore these auctions; they will not tell you what the gun will actually sell for.

I agree GunBroker is a great resouce especially looking at the sold listings -"BUT" I use "BUT" since it is only as good as the pictures provided by the seller and the accuracy of the seller's description. On new guns, it is mostly a given if the seller is honest. You might also want to go back and check the feeback from the buyer on the gun you are comparing on GB.

I would recommend both resources used together (book and auction sells).
