What do y'all think of Gun Tests magazine? Is it worth the $24 a year subscription price?
Thanks in advance for your opinion :)

Gun Tests is the closest publication we have to a Consumer Reports for firearms. They accept no ads or specially tuned factory guns. Everything they test, they obtain through regular channels the way you or I would. Out of all the publications out there, I believe them to be the most honest.

Is it worth the $24 subscription price? If you purchase guns regularily, I would say 'yes'. Even if you don't, it's still fun reading. I've been a subscriber since the early/mid-1990's.

If you subscribe for a long time you will see them waffle on a gun from time to time. When they first see it it gets a bad review. On a second look six months or a year later it gets a good review. I do like the fact that they take the same chances the general public takes on a purchase. Worth the price? I guess if its the only monthly you take. Its always good to get a second opinion on almost anything.

I'll say this: Whoever came up with the idea is brilliant! Somebody else pays for your gun collection, and all you have to do is write about it and publish it. They even charge the reader for the mail ect...
I'll have to come up with my own mag. Maybe assault rifle/pistol test magazine. My subscriptions would be cheaper though, like 12 bucks.

NOPE
wait till they offer a year for arround $12.00 thats what I do for guns and ammo ,shooting times, combat handguns ,etc.1/2 price or less off newsstand if not they can keep them adds up enough as it is!

What FUD said. Gun Tests does not accept advertising from gun companies, so their tests are ideally unbiased by financial motivation. Note that other gun rags accept copious amounts of advertising. Did you ever see Combat Handguns, American Hand Gunner, or Guns & Ammo ever write a review where they said they would not reccomend the gun being tested? I haven't. Gun Tests says this on a regular basis for guns that don't meet their stated standards.

Is Gun Tests perfect? No. Many of their criteria are subjective. For example, they may provide the accuracy speces @ 25 yards for a pistol for X number of shots (not subjective). Then they may include the fact that the gun did or did not seem to fit well in the hands of the testers or did not fit comfortably (subjective) and this might turn out to be a deciding point when they rate the 3 or 4 guns being evaluated. This particular gun may not rate as well because it felt lousy in the hands to them, even though it shot well. While subjective, the observations may be valid. If you are interested in making a purchase, you might check the feel in more detail. Maybe it feels good to you? If so, fine, but at least you know it also shoots well.

I used to subscribe to Gun Tests. Now, I don't. It was good for informing me of a gun's fit, finish, and reliability. But the other assessments were too subjective, involving a rotating pool of reviewers (each with their unique build, experience level, etc.), for me to take seriously all the time. What really ended it, though, was that I just didn't give a rat's ass about 85-90% of the guns they reviewed.

Heck, just pick the gun you're thinking about, and do a search on this very board. Chances are you will learn more than you wanted to know. :)
