Not having much luck finding any decent info online.
I'll be in Jackson, the Tetons, Yellowstone areas for a couple of weeks.

Flying on passes (standby) so I can't check one of my handguns to take with.
Figured I'd buy a used one out there and just ship it back.

Any info on a good dealer in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

If you're not a Wyoming resident they're not going to let you walk out of the store with a handgun. To do so would be a violation of federal law. You can buy a gun in a state that's not your state of residence only by having the seller ship the gun back to you via an FFL in your home state. You may not purchase the gun directly outside of the state of your residence. Sorry.

I would be surprised if there were any "gun" stores in the Jackson Hole area. That whole area has become a bastion of liberalism and progressives.

It is still Wyoming after all.

That sure is good to know!

My wife and I went there in the eighties and loved it. I really wanted to take my kids there before they get to old.

But, the only thing I see now-a-days about the area is all the rich "Hollywood" foo-foo shops. It appeared to me that Jackson was going the way of Aspen or Vail. (Two fantastic places ruined by Hollywood libs.)

I was last there about 6 or 7 years ago and my impression was that it was going the way of Disney World. It's wall to wall souvenir shops, "authentic" bars, way too expensive restaurants, phony shootouts in the town square, and traffic that rivals Los Angeles at rush hour. It isn't the Hollywood crowd or the liberals that ruined the place, it's the tourists and the tourist industry.

Still, I can understand why it's so popular. The surrounding valley and the Tetons, right next door, are spectacularly beautiful, and the Snake River, with some of the best whitewater in the country, practically runs through the town. Weather in the summer is a delight and there are ski resorts just adjacent to the town for winter visitors. Jackson is also close to Yellowstone and a relatively short drive from some of Wyoming's most spectacular mountain scenary. It's absolutely worth going there, if you haven't been, despite the kitsch.

Just assume that you're going to have plenty of company and don't expect to come home with a handgun that you purchased in a local gun store!

I most certainly agree with Stevieboy. I've been going there off and on for almost 40 years and in all seasons including winter. Yep, it has changed bunches. However, I would not say that it's a "tourist trap". Most of the shops and restaurants have real class. Besides that ..."Gun? You don't need no stinkin' gun" ... to enjoy the place. Go "nekkid" for a change. :D

Is the town park still using the elk antlers for the entrances? Been a long time since i was there. I recall a hike to a hidden waterfall out Jenny Lake way.

Was a touristy place then in 1984 or so when I last went there.
