Gun sock question.

I've read much about people storing guns in those silicone impregnated socks but was wondering if this does any damage to the wood stock and fore end? Not sure what the properties of silicone are and if it is good or bad for the wood over a long period of time. I have an 870 that I store in a hard case in a closet and have come to the conclusion, based on what I've read, here that this is a bad idea. Luckily no rust yet though. Any thoughts?
 
The sock will not be dripping wet with silicone, it is sprayed on and will not damage wood or anything else it comes in contact with.
