Hello everyone. My name is Robert. I have a 243 youth model rifle. I just put a nikon4-12x50. On it. From what alot of people say of you zero at 25 yards you should be 2 to3 high at 100 yards. My case i was 2 1/2 low.. i shoot rem 770 . With federal 100 gr. Support points. Why would it be that low. Thanx

No way should a 25 yard zero result in being several inches low at 100.

You're either doing something wrong or there's a serious problem with your scope.

Personally, I've never cared about a close zero. If I want to be 2" or 3" or whatever high at "X" yardage, I go to that yardage and sight in that much high. Much easier than guessing.

The old standby that I grew up with was an inch high at 100 yards. Did not worry much about holdover tell 300. That was with 30-06 and 7mm

All the info is theoretical and in your case if you actually had to shoot without a 100 yd zero you would have been ok (not great but ok and obviously out past 100 an issue).

Upshot is what Brain said, it got you close and now adjust it on at whatever height you want out at 100 yds.

If you are curious for your scope and cartridge setup shoot it again at 25 yds.

How high at 100 depends on what you want and what range you want it to do it at. 2 inches generally at 100 gives you pretty good on game out to 250 to 400 yds depending in the caliber and the bullet/velocity.

Flatter shooting you can be lower, 30-06 and such 2 inches gives you pretty good to where you don't have to raise the aiming point out to 300.

I don't do 243 so I don't have the rules of thumb but again it really depends on what you want.

If you just want to target shoot at a 100 then you B'eye it at that range.

try moving out to 50, tighten and check scope mount + rings, the scope should be hitting high on the target. the only thing as stated could be your scope being loose and messing with your accuracy.

you may also not have the scope leveled, is another thought, i had a similiar issue with a LER scope i did not level correctly (i have the level tool to fix this now)

the 25 yard zero is so you will be on paper at 100! You get the best possible zero now at 100, and go back and shoot 25, you'll still be on zero!! If you put it at an inch and a half high at 100, your good out to 300!

I was going off what people was saying about zero at 25 yards. Scope is tight. Nothing wrong there. I resighted it at 50 yards. It put me about two high at 100 yards. I have a 7mm mag. It's 1 in at100 yard. I have.no problem with it. I don't way it was low but it was.i have itwhere i want it now. I don't have anything over a 75 yard shot here in Florida where i hunt.
