So many guns, so little money!!

Here's my question: thinking of getting my CCW, so want a fairly concealable, RELIABLE gun for not a lot of money.

Recently got a new CZ75B Mil and it's swwwweeeeeeet. Have read good things about the CZ83 in .380 - 10 rds. for about $230, I figure.

But I'm thinking the .380 round packs only about half or a little more the wallop of a 9mm. (Perhaps there are those who would disagree here - and of course shot placement is far more important - AND the CZ83 is a great little pointer in my hand, although I have not shot one, only held it in the store.)

So I'm thinking should I step up in caliber? The 9mm Makarov is only slightly more punch than the .380, although the Bulgarian Mak seems to be widely available and even cheaper. Not sure about the weight and conceal factors though. So it's on to the 9mm.

I also checked out the Kahr P9 at the store - didn't like the polymer - felt too top-heavy to me. But the K9 would seem about right. I've read that it, too is a very reliable and accurate shooter. Definitely very concealable. But now I'm down to 7 rounds and up to about $430 or so. It seems attractive, but....

What do you guys (and gals) think? Don't say GLOCK - I don't care for the plastic, it's thicker, and even more Dough. Any other 9s for under $400?

Maybe the EAA Witness Compact? CZ makes a bunch of fine compacts, too. As you've mentioned, dollar-for-dollar the Makarov is possibly the best semiauto bargain on the market right now. (..and I wouldn't write off the CZ-83 just because of the .380 chambering, either...)

Why not get a 9mm then? .380 is fine; I sure don't want to be shot with one but there are a bunch of small nines
there also.

I went through the same size, caliber and price dilema...every one
who carries around here are the tried and true 1911 guys and if
I even mentioned that I had a .380 cz 83 they would roll their eyes and give me the its your funeral b.s. I have 27 rounds on
me of gold dots, corbon or triton. They will do just fine. You know
whats funny about everyones arguement about the .380...they
are looking at the famous"one stop" shot info. One of the most
lethal calibers since the dawn of time is the old .38 special.
I have heard (only heard) that it has the record for most documented kills of all time, given its length of service...I have no
problem finding it credible info. The .380 in a good hp these days
has a little more energy than the .38 spec. OK, So whats the
problem with carrying a weapon with 4 1/2 times the bullets
and the same energy as a 38 special?

I also carry a mini 9 mm and a .40 s&w...but I choose my cz 83
every now and then....I shoot is fairly well and feel comfy with
it..thats all the justification I need....Shoot well

UT, I've read the same thing about the good .380 rounds these days providing a bit more punch than the 38 spl, especially if the latter is only coming out of a 2" snub barrel.

I'd still like to get the mini-9 (it's a little cheaper to practice with and I do like the Kahr), but I'm leaning toward the 83.

After all, if I'm carrying and confronted with a 2 or 3 (or more) BG situation from which there's NO safe way out, I would want to have two or three rds. to give each of 'em w/o fumbling around to jam another mag in.

Are there still 13-rounders available for the 83??

Be safe.

Dragondog; You might want to look for an Astra A75L in 9mm. This is a compact reliable double action pistol. The magazine holds 8 rounds. It has a decocker instead of a safty. The A75L is an alluminum framed version of the steel A75. The weight is around 25 Oz. These guns were imported from Spain in 1994/95. I have both an A75 in .40 S&W and an A75L in 9mm. I use the A75L as my carry gun.

Hey, don't feel bad.

I just dropped my ENTIRE gun budget for the forseeable future, plus about $12,000 more, on a neused car. Mine died the final death last week.

So, in my case, it's "So many guns, but NO money!"

Of your choices given...I would go with the CZ-75B MIL for starters. I like mine a lot. I also like my circle 10 Maks very much.

They both are fine weapons and they both compliment my first choice of weapons very nicely. That of course is a 1911 in .45 acp.:p

13 rnd mags for cz 83

Yes they are..they are actual cz military mags designed for the
cz 82 (same exact gun as the 83 except military designation in
the mak caliber) Look up fawco.com...call them, they do not list
these on their web site....request the ones with the thicker base plate ...they look better and frame in the gun....Shoot well

P.S. Empire arms is selling used cz 83..with a hi cap mag for
200.00$...you may want to jump on it now...they wont last long.

Thanks UT!!

I'll let you guys know what I end up with. Also going to be looking for the KADET kit!! I hear there is a .22 kit for the 83 (at least in Europe)
