gun show question

Does anyone know if I will be able to trade a firearm at a gunshow? I am going to my first gunshow this weekend and would like to trade one of my firearms but I am not sure if this is allowed or not. Anyone know if this is ok?

Check the laws in your state, but as a general rule it's okay to transfer a firearm to a resident of your own state as long as they can legally own that firearm.

Actually it's if you have reason to belive that the person is prohibited. I suggest that if you sell to a person on the floor that you get an ID and record name, address and lic#. That's what I do every time. If he won't give that up the sale is squashed no matter how much he offers. Selling to someone who has a table is differant, I usually just get his card.

Tim,

At most "gunshows" you'll need to be a member to trade or sale a firearm at a gunshow.

The above post about checking state law is if you are selling face to face (ftf) meaning from a private person to another (e.g. you listed it for sale and you met them to make the transaction). Check with your gunshow rules.

The main one here in Washington State - Washington Arms Collectors (Puyallup, WA and Monroe, WA) you HAVE to be a member to both sell and buy a firearm at the show. Membership here they do a background check so that rules out the second post concerning - knowingly selling to a prohibited person.

TimNelson, Trades do happen at Gun Shows, but beware, Gun Shows now of days have become just a place that Cheats & Beats gather at to prey upon the walk in crowd, which you will be a part of. Have fun at the show. orchidhunter
