Gun Show: KSG

I went to our local show Friday night and saw my first KSG up close. I didn't even bother asking if I could hold it, because they'd probably charge me rent. It was marked $2500! Come on! How much is Kel-Tec charging for these? Is this thing really going to sell for anywhere near that? The KSG has gone from merely interesting to absolutely stupid in my book, if they really expect to get anywhere near that for these. The $800 figure I first heard was, I thought, nuts but doable, if you really had to have one, but this....

What a retailer is asking has nothing to do with what a manufacturer charges.
The KSG is new and the dealer probably doesn't really want to sell it- but if somebody wants the gun bad enough to pay the asking price, it's not the dealer's fault.

Bill is right. It isn't Kel-Tec charging that much (IIRC, MSRP is $850 or so), but the dealer can ask whatever they like. Since they are just now coming out to dealers and supply is incredibly small, the asking price is likely to be rather high. There's surely someone out there who will try to talk the seller down to $1800 or so and think they got a deal. Meanwhile, the dealer makes bank. It is supply and demand.

There are reports on keltec forums of those who are on waiting list for a year just to find out that the first shipment to their lgs are auctioned off at much higher prices

Kel-Tec said they were going to keep the price "reasonable" and in the $800 - $900 price range.

But it is good I guess that the KSGs are starting to trickle out, I guess they're not that too far past their stated release dat of Fall of 2011. But it remains to be seen how many of them they can actually ship out the door

Anyone can ask any price for anything they want.

Another reason the Internet is a good thing is that it makes for a more efficient market. It gets more buyers in touch with more sellers and the market reaches an equilibrium price point in more areas more quickly.

I am assuming this guy at the gun show was at least running a table. If he is someone's LGD, it's hard to make an argument "support you local gun dealer", when you've got someone who jacks the price up to triple MSRP.

Largest dealer at this gun show and has a business in northern Michigan. I've actually bought guns from him-his prices are usually in range. My EDC and Glock 29 both came from him. It's quite obvious he doesn't want to sell the KSG but would be insane to turn down somebody offering him this.

I've heard on another site that some have actually gone for the above price. I miss my FFL.
