In spite of spirited testimony against Representative Danburg’s gun
show killing legislation at the House Public Safety Committee
yesterday, Danburg allegedly pulled a coup with the committee that
kept the measure alive. The chairman left HB 1199 pending yesterday
at Danburg’s request rather than kill the bill with a vote. Later in
the hall it was strongly rumored by a reliable source that Danburg had
threatened to use her position on the House Calendar Committee to hold
Public Safety Committee members hostage to her bill, hence the
decision to leave it pending versus a vote to kill.
All gun owners need to write, call, fax, e-mail the Public Safety
Committee members with your continued opposition to this legislation
(HB 1199).
Also, Representative Roberto Guitterrez, McAllen, commented several
times that no one from his District 41 had communicated with him
either for or against Danburg’s HB 1199. He said that all of the
communication that he had received was from people outside of his
district. Do you have any friends in McAllen that could object to the
support that Guitterez is giving for this gun show legislation?
Concentrate on contacting Guitterez, Driver, Najera, and King if you
can’t contact them all.
