Gun show in town...and a gun comes home for $80

Don't you just hate those gun shows? :) I was stopping by this morning to buy a hi-cap for my G19, but the dealers were price gouging. $80-100 for a 15-rounder is insanity. Anyway, I was checking out all the stands when I noticed a lone, shiny Makarov (Norinco M59) in a display. Picked it up, had them snip the tie to work the action...hmm, looks almost unfired. Price tag says $99, and as I check out the gun the dealer says she can go down to $80 if I am interested. Mak comes with box and two mags, so I whip out the cash that was earmarked for the hi-cap, and 20 minutes later I walk out with my new Makarov and 100 rounds of 9mm Mak.

I took it to the range and shot a hundred rounds through it. No malfunction, no failure to feed, very low recoil and incredibly accurate for a military sidearm. I like it a lot.

Any other Mak owners out there? How does the Norinco model compare to the other Makarovs out there? Mine seems to be well finished, and the trigger is not match grade but good enough. Looks like a keeper.

lendringser, Sounds like you made a pretty good buy. I just prchased a 9x18 E. German Mak. Haven't had a chance to get it to the range yet. You may want to check out the Makarov web page, Makarov.com. I believe if you look under links here on the firing line they have te connection listed there.
You should find everything you need to know there. Hope this helps and good luck with the new purchase.
Happy Shooting :)

Seems like I read over on makarov.com that the Chinese Maks are kinda scare and command a little higher price than some of the others do. Sounds like you got a real good deal.

Some people bad mouth the Norinco Makarov's
as lower quality than their European brothers
but the one I had was totally reliable and
had one of the deepest, nicest bluings I've
seen. Sold it for no very good reason and
have kicked myself ever since. Sounds like
you got a great deal!

I would have bought that gun for $200 in a heartbeat. I've never even seen a Norinco Mak!

I own a bunch of Maks and have been looking for a Norinco to round-out the collection. I too have never seen the chinese Mak in real life yet. I think you did quite well lendringser. Happy shooting.
