Gun scrubber and Henry lever action 22

I had a chance to try out my new Henry lever action 22LR today. Very nice little rifle with a smooth action. While cleaning it, I discovered to my dismay that Gun Scrubber completely destroys the blued finish, and the bare metal now shows in several areas. This doesn't seem normal. I use the stuff on my blued guns all the time, and have never had any trouble with the finish.

Have any Henry owners had this problem? It's frustrating enough that I need to ship the rifle back to the factory, but how will Henry Repeating Arms handle the matter? Anyone with experience in dealing with them? I'd appreciate your input.

time to break out the ol' gun chubber and spray it reall good this time. Now git your-self some black enamel and spray...some people prefer to use camoflage coulors, cant say the same.

The recievers on Henry rifles were traditionally made out of brass which was polished, or zinc castings which are then painted. This is why they are less expensive than marlin, or winchester .22 rifles. I would clean and degrease the reciever and then spray paint it. Or call henry and they may refinish it for you at a small charge.

StephenT, we have one of those little Henry .22s and have been using Birchwood Casey's "Gun Scrub", no problems at all with the finish.

Hi all, I had some trouble with the finish on my Henry a while back, but I have to commend Henry Repeating Arms for a job well done in resolving my problem. Not only did HRA promptly replace the receiver on my rifle and test-fire the gun at no charge, but they called me to let me know they had shipped the rifle by UPS back to me, and I appreciate the extra effort. I'll give HRA a thumbs-up.
