gun saver or golden rod?

Was thinking of getting a gun saver by golden rod to put in my safe. I noticed that the original golden rod has a little more wattage. Is the original golden rod much better than the gunsaver model? Also I noticed on the website that the safe must be vented, loose door seals etc. Should I adjust my door to have more play? Would this negate the door seal in a fire?

Opinions and suggestions please.

I've always used GoldenRods because that's all they used to make. Shop around for the best price no matter what you get. Some makes/models have removeable plugs on the wire so you can feed the wire through the little predrilled hole in the back.

Most gun safes/RSCs have a door seal that expands when it gets hot. Meanwhile, try the dollar bill test that's used to test refrigerator gaskets. Close the safe door on a dollar bill and see if you can pull it out - I bet it comes out with very little effort or actually slides down the crack until it hits a bolt.

If the door is 2' x 4' let's say, then the crack around it is 12 feet long. Even if the crack is only 1/64th of an inch, that's a total of 2.25 square inches - a pretty big ventilation hole. If it's 1/32nd then the total is 4.5".

The golden rods must be made to last as the same one has been plugged in for 24 years in the safe and still works.
 
The GunSaver model is basically the older GoldenRod (12W/18") in a black finish. I happened to get the newer 1W/in. 18" GoldenRod to be on the safe side although the GunSaver model would be plenty good enough. Either one will work great at keeping your guns rust free in your safe. GoldenRods and GunSavers both come with removeable plugs.

I've never checked my safe door for a tight seal but when I go to check out my toys, it's always nice and toasty warm in the safe, I don't lose much heat through the door gap. Most, if not all safes have a Palusol seal around the door that in a fire swells to form a tight seal around the door.
 
Thanks, I called liberty safe and they told me the door should have about a 1/8" gap. I guess my door was a little tight. The plausol will expand to fill the gap in a fire.

Does anyone know if they make some sort of powerpack for the GoldenRod? I have a safe in which I cannot run a cord out of so there's no way to plug the GR into a power source.
 
Anything that produces heat uses a lot of juice.I don't think any power pack would last long at all even if it is made.:confused: Drill that sucker!
 
If you do not have a predrilled hole, (mine didn't), I had to drill a small hole through the back to run the cord - wasn't that difficult to do. Remember, that the plug comes off so the hole only needs to be as big as the cord itself.....
