I live in Cincinnati Ohio and I am going to a gun show in Kentucky on Sunday and I would like to sell my when I am there. My question is what do I have to look for if I sell it? Are there any laws about selling guns across state lines? Or do I just have to make sure he is of age. I am new to selling guns and I just want to make sure I do it correctly so I don't get into trouble later on for any number of reasons. Please help if you know any thing about selling.

Thank you,
Todd

You cannot sell to an unlicensed individual unless the firearm is transferred by a local dealer. Interstate sales directly between residents of different states are forbidden by Federal law.

Umm, I though selling to someone from another state was ok if it was done in person. As far as licenseing goes. I never knew you had to have a license to buy a gun. I never got a license to buy the handguns I own. I though it was up to the state to determine if licenses are required before handgun purchase. Sales between individuals are private transactions that aren't held to the same regulations as buying from a firearms dealer in many places. You coldn't sell to him if he's a felon though.

When Federal regulations talk about licensed or unlicensed inidviduals, they are talking about Federal Firearms Licensees, which includes dealers. They are not talking about individual licenses to purchase firearms. That is a matter for the states.

FFLs can sell long guns to citizens across state lines.

Only at his premesis or at a gun show in the state in which his premesis is located. Even then, the sale has to be legal under the laws of both states.

Don't advertise which state you are from and don't produce ID. What you don't know will help with more than what you do know.

Whether we agree with the law or not, one thing we absolutely do not do here is to instruct or encourage others to break federal law.
