gun safety press conference?

A gun safety conference? Hey! That's good news! 
Mandy Patinkin, eh? Hmm... I didn't know that he knew anything about gun safety.
Celebs??? NYC???
Why do I get the feeling that this wasn't really about "gun safety?"
BTW, I searched NPR's site and found nothing on this. Hopefully Paul Harvey will say something about this so we can find out "The Rest of the Story."
