Gun Safe ?

I’m looking for a secure locking cabinet or gun safe that dose not look like a safe. I want something as low key as possible. I need room for a half doz long guns and at least as many handguns.

What do you suggest?

This probably won't fit your needs economically, but it might give you some ideas: http://www.hideit.com/index2.html . Some of our members are in TN - maybe they're familiar with the company?

Otherwise, you might want to scout around your house / apartment and see if there is an area you could cleverly block off, and make it blend into the surrounding wall. Won't work with drywall / plaster, but does work with various paneling - T-111, etc. Then, anchor a standard gun safe in the area, block it off and voila - no safe. A friend did that, and he can access the safe in about 45 seconds, but you'd never know it's there.

For those with more imagination than money, a horizontal box with little stub legs, some cushions and a cover looks just like a couch...

There is a company called Zanotti, which makes modular safes. You can assemble them right on the spot, including inside an existing closet. They are good when you want to put a safe where stairs would collapse under the weight of some safes, or in similar situations. In all but the biggest, each piece can be handled by one reasonably strong person. They can be disassembled for moving if necessary.

They are tough, but not fireproof, and not as heavy as some others, but they provide more protection than some cheap gun safes I have seen that are really tin cabinets.

They really do have a better idea for the tough places.

Briefly, set base on floor (has holes for bolt down).
Set sides in, lock to base with heavy "L" pins through heavy lugs on inside.
Set back in, lock to base and sides.
Set front in, lock to sides.
Set top on, lock to sides, front, and back.
Put door on.
Done.

Back has a hole for wire for de-humidifier.

Not as quick as it sounds; some pieces are darned heavy, but it works!

I havent had this one in a while but it was comforting......I had an old lockable ice chest that stored in the garage, well I kept a lot of vairous guns in there for quite a while...and kept odd junk piled on top of it.........fubsy.
