Gun Room

I am working on finishing up my gun room. I am getting close to having the safe installed. So I have been picking up things for the safe.

So far I picked up the following:

Cannon Safe Inc. SSL-03-Electronic Lock Security Safe Light
Eva-dry E-500 Renewable Wireless Mini Dehumidifier
Humidity Monitor

I am going to order my handgun racks for in the safe from http://www.manaboutracks.com/Pages/default.aspx they seem to be very nicely made.

The only thing I am not sure of is how to light the interior of the safe. I have watched multiple video's on YouTube and still not sure what is best. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to light a safe.

LED strips and a battery work if you don't have power right there. I know a guy who uses a refrigerator light with door switch. Me, I wired in a good ceiling light that lights the first couple rows, the back I get with a swing-arm drafting lamp mounted atop the safe. Open door, swing lamp, turn it on.

Get one or two of those battery operated ones that you click on and off - cheap and you can stick them anywhere needed. Where I live, humidity is as bad or worse than Clearwater and I use a Golden Rod and several desiccant boxes. If I need more light than what the ceiling light provides, a small flashlight works well.

Make sure you measure your interior and include the gun heights for those pistol racks to make sure you have enough clearance. The top shelf in MY safe worked better with the plastisol covered wire racks that Cabela's, Midway and a few others sells

I have some custom racks from "Man About Racks" and they are the one of the best things I did for my safe. My guns and magazines are organized and I am able to put 20 handguns per shelf in a double stacked rack which were custom made for my safe dimensions.

After trying several different methods of illuminating the interior of the safe, I opted for Duracell Motion Lights which I purchased at Costco. I set the switch for motion activation and when the safe door is opened, the lights go on. After about 20 seconds with no motion, the lights extinguish. I elected not to secure the lights so that I can move them around as needed to search the lower shelves when I sort thru some of my non-gun related material residing in that area.

Have you seen the gizmo that sends an alert to your phone if anyone messes with the safe?
Liberty Safes sells it, mebbe?

Many good options.

Thank you for your post as I'm taking notes on possible future updates, for my safe. First off, you need a power source and if you have a Golden-Rod, then you have that. On my safe, I mounted a 24" florescent low profile light on the ceiling of my safe and connected to a switch, just inside the door. I think that if I had the LED option back then, I would have gone that way. My current light serves me well. ..... ;)

Be Safe !!!
