Gun rights commentary in college newspaper??

I admit, I wrote this, but I am one of the few conservatives on campus, and since I am a manager for the newspaper, I could pull this off easy. We have about 20,000+ readers for each issue, so I hope I can reach out a little bit. Tell me what ya'll think (commentary here).

Small snippet:

"While reducing gun deaths is not completely eliminating them, some people have a simple solution. They believe we should just ban all guns. "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in," says California Sen. Diane Feinstein. The history of our government banning goods has shown that it only creates a volatile black market open only to those who wish to do harm. Prohibition in the early 20th century and the war on drugs are two great examples of violent underworlds that are created by ridiculous government sanctions. Imagine if I, a law abiding citizen without a criminal record and carrying a concealed weapons permit, were forced to give up my weapon simply because some people misuse theirs. Do you think criminals would hand in theirs? Do you think that no one could possibly find a way to mass-import the guns into the country illegally? If you guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. We would have to rely purely on police officers, and last time I checked, I don't get an escort home when I walk through 31st Street."

good work

As a recent college grad and an reader of 2 and a half student run papers, its rare to hear a view like your. Good work and keep it up.

It is amazing to find out that there are still youths of this nation that have not been perverted. I am totally relieved because I thought I was one of the last. Being 23 and a college student, I constantly find myself surrownded by anti's. I'm berated by people that think my standpoint is uneducated. After giving an anti gun control speech that was preceded by a pro gun control speech (my persuasive speech that I had written up was practically thrown out the window instantly became an impromptu speech), my fellow classmate (the anti gun speech giver) spat in my face (literally). I praise you for standing up for what you believe in. Having integrity and speaking up for what is right with bring you more outspoken ridicule than comradery, but it's worth it.

I commend you. If you're ever in the Atlanta area, you have a range buddy.

I really appreciate the compliments. I just frustrates me the condition that our country has been left in from those who pervert the constitution to their own means for gun control. I shouldn't have to be an NRA life member, but I am, because with pro-gun rights organizations, God only knows where our rights would be right now. :(

Oh, and MicroBalrog,

If you want to write something up, like a letter to the editor (max 300 words) about my gun article, you're more than welcome to submit it to my newspaper e-mail, ed-op@thetriangle.org. Publication deadline is next Tuesday afternoon. If you want to, you can even write your own full length (min. 750 words, max. 1250 words) commentary about it. They are promoting me to Ed-Op Editor, and appointed me to Editorial Board, so I now have more of a range of influence.
