Gun Registration

Folks, I have many guns, long and hand, some I have had for over 50 years and I have always been against any kind of registration and I thougth that was one of the appeal points of the GWB administration. However, I recently bought another gun (243) just to have it and if there is anyone out there who thinks guns are not being registered they should go down town and buy one. I had to fill out more papers than you would have to do to buy a house, they copied my drivers license, demanded my SS no. and then made a phone call (salesman said it was to the FBI office in Atlanta GA.) before I was allowed to pay for the gun. Men, that is nothing less than registration of OUR guns under the cover of Home Land Security.

There are several post that have come up about this. The Feds are suppose to destroy your records after a short period of time. The Place that sells you the gun has to keep the records for 20 years. Anyone want to really bet that the Feds destroy those those records before they find their way into a database somewhere?

Jack - If it is legal in your state like it is in mine - buy from an individual instead of a dealer. I'm not naive enough to believe that unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats will destroy the information once they have it. That's a list I don't plan to be on.

I'm also not naive enough to believe that I'm not on some kind of .gov list somewhere for something else.

Registration, or not...New Orleans showed that if the Gov't wants to take your guns, they have no problem with going house-to-house to get them...

That's one of the two things that sticks in my mind.

Despite all of the talk about how this could never happen, it did. And the excuse is always, "but it's an emergency (insert the disaster de jour) situation!"

The other thing is that when we take our rights so cavalierly as to neglect to guard them, we end up losing them.

It it my understanding that you do not have to give your Social Security number when buying a firearm. At least, not yet.

How long has it been since you bought a gun from a dealer? You've had to do "yellow paper" since the Gun Control Act of 1968.

You want to see real back door registration of gun owners? Have you noticed that you have to give your Social Security number when you get your hunting license? Supposedly, this is to chase down "deadbeat dads". Yeah, right! That's a federal requirement to get your hunting license. Congratulations. The governemnt now knows you own a gun.  :barf:

:D Yep. Probably, Wayne, probably. Especially since I have been fingerprinted and background checked to get my Ohio CHL.

I rationalize it by saying that without a CHL I cannot legally carry without being charged with a felony, therefore I willingly got the license.

On the other hand, since I can acquire firearms through legal means without subjecting myself to governmentally mandated, defacto registration - I do.

Good rationalization, eh?
