Gun owners vs. people who just happen to own guns

It is with sadness that I post this message. I recently learned that two close relatives will be voting for AlGlore this November. In their home is a locked gun cabinet with a nice little collection of firearms. Most have sat dormant for over 30 years. When we said to these relatives, "By voting for Gore, you don't mind registering and ultimately surrendering your firearms?" The answer was "no." :(

I am very disheartened by this turn of events. There may be 80 million Americans who just happen to have firearms, but obviously there aren't 80 million gun owners in this country. My mission, before election day, is to turn these folks from the dark side.

Please remember that AlGore's position on firearms is only one point of attack. It won't work on everybody, so we need to arm ourselves with a variety of anti-Gore ammuntion (there's plenty to go around). Also, some ultra-liberal members of our society would clearly be better served by a Nader presidency. Encourage these folks accordingly.

Thanks for listening to my short story. It was a wake up call for me that anyone who owns firearms would even consider voting for Gore. Maybe you should have a brief chat with some gun folks you think are a "lock." I hope you don't get the surprise I did.

BTW lurkers, I'm sure he meant political ammunition so relax ;)

Sub MOA,

I too have a similar story. Two friends who whole heatedly believe that Al Bore is Pro-2nd Amendment. One said that he heard Al say in his speech at the DNC the he believes Americans have the right to own firearms. We all know how that statement could be twisted to mean any thing you want. I will do my best to help these folks see the light. One sadly will buy a new gun rather than give the money to an organization that will help us win hearts and minds. I myself can’t even buy ammo any more. I just can’t take that money away from JPFO, GOA or KABA.

How can they say Algore supports rkba when his convention was packed with gun grabbers? Damn sheep. Too bad I'm not in the wool business, America would be like a gold mine for me..

Sub MOA-- you owe it to yourself to educate those folks! Or maybe help them educate themselves. Give 'em a copy of "More Guns, Less Crime"-- the newer paperback version with an expanded section on how Lott's opponents have lied about and refused to even read his books!
Take them to see "The Patriot."
H!ll, take them shooting, but do something to open their eyes-- don't they realize that "hate crimes prevention laws" will be used to abrogate the 1st A?

Sub MOA: Phone in a tip to the BATF that they've converted a semi-auto to full auto. If they live they'll become politically active.

My brother in law is the same way. Owns more guns than I do, studying to be a gun smith, and plans to vote for Gore because Gore "is an enviromentalist, and that's good for the hunting." I figure that I'll get a copy of "Earth in the Ballance" out of the library, (Wouldn't want to BUY it, of course!) and show him what sort of enviromentalist Gore is.

Look, some people just aren't too bright. Console yourself that that's far more true of the other side, and that there will be more people this fall voting for Bush convinced that he'll confiscate every firearm in the country, than for Gore because they think he's pro gun.

Not too good for any Gunsmithing business he may have in mind! That's like buying a vehicle because it has a pretty bumper!

That's not a bad idea, lol. Too bad once the ATF found out that you erroneously reported an illegal conversion they'd come and kill you as well.

I just about fell out of my chair when I read <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>"is an enviromentalist, and that's good for the hunting."
Tell those friends who heard Gore say he supports the RKBA that Clinton has said the same thing, but when it comes down to a court case, the administration had no trouble saying the oposite.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Judge Garwood: "You are saying that the Second Amendment is consistent with a position that you can take guns away from the public? You can restrict ownership of rifles, pistols and shotguns from all people? Is that the position of the United States?"

Meteja (attorney for the government): "Yes"

Judge Garwood was having none of that.

Garwood: "Is it the position of the United States that persons who are not in the National Guard are afforded no protections under the Second Amendment?"

Meteja: "Exactly."

Meteja then said that even membership in the National Guard isn't enough to protect the private ownership of a firearm. It wouldn't protect the guns owned at the home of someone in the National Guard.

Garwood: "Membership in the National Guard isn't enough? What else is needed?"

Meteja: "The weapon in question must be used IN the National Guard."
This from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals oral arguments in US v. Emerson.

walangkatapat, regarding the 1911 forum...one idiot does not a movement make, but the link is very much in keeping with the topic here, thanks.

Brett,
Calling the feds would probably work on most Americans, but I'm afraid it wouldn't work on these folks. I'd venture a guess they would hand over their legal firearms rather than put up a fight. I wouldn't/couldn't make that phone call anyway. My conscience would kill me, plus I wouldn't want someone doing that to me (Golden Rule).

Johnr, regarding taking them shooting, been there done that. Beatiful day, had fun (at least I did), but it obviously didn't tug on the emotional strings and produce the desired effect.

Once again, I guess the whole point of my original post: some people who have guns don't really care. They don't eat, breathe, and live guns like most of us do. Our job for this election is to make them care. Our best bet is to attack on other fronts, or possibly convince these people that a government that will take their Second Amendment rights won't give a second thought about taking their other rights, too.

BTW, these folks are big computerphiles. Can everybody supply their favorite anti-Gore links? When I get enough, I'll send them off and pray, but since AlGore invented the internet their loyalty is most likely strong.

I know a few hunters like this. If guns were banned they'd be just as happy to sit out in the woods with a pointed stick and a case of beer.

Just don't try to take away their beer!

Don't know if it will make you feel better. But some of us who aren't gun fans still like the 2nd Amendment (well, all of the BOR), so that kind of evens things out a little bit.
I'll be damned if I'm willing to give up the right to like them in the future. :)

No no, they'd then come and run the convenience store over with tanks and burn everyone inside alive. You can't go getting the poor teenagers that work the gas station killed now can you?

Best to avoid deaths and no call the ATF at all...

I also enjoyed that comment 'Al Gore is an environmentalist, and that's good for hunting ...'. Wow.

I'll have to remember that the next time someone tells me that human beings are evolving. Devolving is more like it ... ;)

Hey Sub MOA, seems to me like its time to inherit that collection huh? :D

Sadly, there's probably a majority of gun owners for who RKBA ranks down there somewhere with the timeliness of the trash pickup. Hunting is a hobby and one that they can live without. Pocketbook issues are first and foremost for most voters, and they don't even see when their "savior" is promising to pick their own pockets just to give them back dimes on the dollar. Gore has promised "Social Security Plus," a government 401K that will give people a matching contribution of one to three dollars for every one they put in. Ask them: who's paying for it? Who's paying for the three dollars that low-income workers will get? Your hunting buddies are. Who's paying for the one dollar match that the rich (read anyone over $78,000) will get?
The people who aren't involved in the plan. It's just another entitlement program to keep the population hooked.

Dangus,

I had the same reaction. How, what, you think he is? I asked if they watched the nightly news and they said, "YES", proudly. They even said something about thinking GWB was dumb, and I have heard this from three people. Have they been puttin down GWB on the news? ;) Seriously have they I don’t watch the news! I personally believe that a president that surrounds himself with smart people is smarter than the ones that think they can do it all by them selves.

Look guys- get a grip. THE ONLY reason that these jacks came to power was through the efforts of the afore mentioned morons..

Here's the deal: I am a retired S.O. Combat pilot with a DFC and 4 Air Medals, so what the heck would I know? I lived in socialist countries overseas for 12 years and visited several ComBlock areas before the wall came down. GUESS how I vote? (PS, I enlisted//not drafted// during the Nam and came up through the ranks)

My older brother is a ///UNION/// something in AZ, Guess how his wife tells him to vote?

I've been through it a million times with him to no avail. He "hates" all about GORE, but "da oonion says to votes for im soes I will...."

I used to wonder how brothers ended up on dif. sides in the war of Northern aggression.
I don't any more. You had better be able to make that same choice after the media elects Gore.
