Gun Owners are the problem!

Folks, by the lowest estimate I have ever seen there are about 65 million legitimate gun owners in the United States. That represents a potential voting block of 65 million voting age adults. No politician in the world would willingly tangle with such a political group and yet many politicians love to "take on the gun lobby". Why is this?

It is because RKBA activists make up a very tiny portion of gun owners. Gun owners are killing themselves and believing the propaganda spewed out by the opposition. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to correct some fellow gun owner that believed the "plastic gun" myth or the "cop-killer" bullet myth.

These are the people we need to reach and educate. They already own guns so they already have a vested interest. We just need to show these people how they are being decieved. Furthermore, these people can be converted with a lot less effort than an anti.

If we are going to see Gore out of the White House this year (and personally, I believe Bush is the best chance for that), then we need to mobilize our fellow gun owners - our buddies at the range who "are thinking about joining the NRA", the guys who aren't in the NRA because they are "too extreme", the guys who aren't in the NRA because they are "too soft" (At least join GOA then!). The neighbor who owns a gun "just in case but isn't really into them".

These are the people we have got to reach if we want to keep our rights. I have already picked out some likely candidates that I know. Let's all do the same and with luck we can take back what we have lost.

Bartholomew,
Very good idea Sir! I know a few gun owners that I need to "talk to" and you can rest assured that I'll do my part.
Take care. :)

"Lead, follow or get the HELL out of the way."

In talking to some of the people in question, an excuse for not getting active and voting that I often hear is that they don't have readily available information by which to judge candidates, and they don't want to go to the polls uninformed. I have access to the web and other tools, so finding the necessary info isn't often a problem. I have had some luck convincing a couple of these inactive gunowners to go the the polls by offering to do the research for their district myself, and sending them a list of recommended candidates. I've found some people are much more easily convinced to go get active and vote if they can go informed. With the resources, it's relatively quick and easy for me to do this, and it's a small investment of time to get more votes for our side. Just my two cents.

I agree whole-heartedly! I have a few people on my "gun e-mail list" whom I periodically e-mail articles to. Some are very pro-RKBA, others don't own a gun and some just own a few of those hunting rifles and don't understand why anyone "NEEDS" an AR-15 or a pistol. I think they're gradually seeing the light as I pass on more and more articles that show the true colors of the "antis".

This is a good technique to use I think.
