Gun Oil, Clothing, and Sweat

The company that used to make shorts which would take my 3" S&W Model 60 in the pocket quit making them. I have IWB holsters for my CC handguns but now have to balance keeping my firearms protected from sweat and not staining my clothes with lubricant.

I live in Florida and very much prefer a loose Hawaiian shirt or Columbia sun shirt untucked with no t-shirt. (I get heat rash on my chest with a regular t-shirt in the summer months.)

For those of you who CC in warm humid climates how do you deal with this issue? Just lubricate one side of your weapon? Wear some sort of under shirt that balances air flow with protection? Wear a wool suit regardless of the heat and carry a .44 mag Dirty Harry style?

My usual CC handguns are SS Model 60 or alloy-frame Kimber .45 Pro Carry.

I live in Atlanta and it is pretty hot and humid here. I always wear a t-shirt which protects my gun and my clothing. If you don’t like the all cotton shirts they now make them in various man made fabrics that might work better for you.

As for the gun oil you might be better served by wiping your gun down each night instead of attempting to keep it covered with a coat of oil.

+1 For Wax...

I coat my Model 60 with Renaissance Wax, and it seems to protect it well against sweat and the elements...

Your model 60 is made of stainless you don't need to worry about protecting it from sweat when carrying, just give it a quick wipe down at the end of the day. I was at my parents once and my mother stuck my model 60 which happened to be a 3" like yours in the closet on a very humid New England day. When I took a look at it the hammer was covered in a thin layer of rust but the rest of the gun was fine.

Yep, that.

It goes with my 70's mullet hair cut.

LOL!

I just wipe down my carry gun every night when I take it off. It keeps the fuzzies off / out of the action too.

When I carry OWB in warm weather (I've never found an IWB holster that wasn't horribly uncomfortable for me) I wear a very thin cotton tank top under my shirt so that the gun isn't against my bare skin (these type of shirts are known around my parts as "wife beaters" though I wish I could think of a better term to describe them). When it's really, really hot and humid, I usually just resort to pocket carry.
