Hi Forumites,
I'm new here and I want to verify the laws in Alabama: (1) If a person has no pistol permit, can that person still bring his pistol to a shooting range for practice - in a locked case on his car's trunk. (2) If a person is travelling from Alabama going to Florida (crossing Georgia) with no pistol permit but the pistol is on a locked case on the car's trunk - is this person violating any state or federal law? I asked these questions because I heard a lot of different input from LEO to ordinary persons to CCW holders...Thanks

I'd hope that Alabama's laws aren't any more "northern" than are Georgia's and Florida's. In Georgia, you don't have to separate your handgun and ammo. You can carry a loaded handgun in your vehicle, without a permit of any kind, as long as you're 21, and not otherwise precluded from licensing. You can carry the loaded hangun in your console, glove box, or in plain view.

Look up the AL and FL laws for yourself. You can probably find what you need to know on packing.org.

Good advice- look up the laws yourself or go into a Police station and ask if they have any explanatory brochures.

Don't rely on what people tell you- you will often be told LORE and not LAW.
