I do the knife stuff at a few Michigan shows and have really found some bonanzas. For example, this past weekend a dealer was clearing out premium rifle and pistol ammo for $4-8 a box. This included Remington golden sabers, Federal hydra-shoks winchester silver tips, Federal premium .223, etc. When the dust settled I had spent over $250 but missed the $90 Leupold pistol scopes.
So to answer the question "where have the great gun show deals gone?" it's to the dealers and early birds. In fact, If done right you can often buy below wholesale so you may want to try setting up or at least get there early.
