Gun Grab and NSA Spying - Connect the dots

Some thoughts crossed my mind and I wanted to see what other people think.

I was at work talking with a fellow gun enthusiast about his latest purchases and what we like about some of what we have. First thought for consideration: My belief is that as fellow gun owners we would never give up another person if we were forced by the government to surrender what we own. I hope all would agree

The second thought for consideration is this NSA spying issue which is far more serious to me. On forums like this we have a lot of owners who freely divulge, under the cloak of anonymity, the various arms they have. With this spying tool the NSA has the capability of tracking a formerly anonymous user through their IP address on the network directly back to them. Would it be far fetched to see them show up at your door and say "We know that your are maddog1 on The Firing Line forum and on this date you posted that you owned such and such, turn them over."

Your fellow worker maybe a plant by the Justice Department. I would be very cautious about what I say to him about your weapons. Work is the primary target for Government spies and plants to identify gun owners.

All the above is a bunch of insanity rambling to go along with your unfounded fears. Now if you have a history of mental issues or if you are a convicted felon you may have a good reason to be hush - hush about your firearm activities.

Otherwise, most all my firearms have been obtained through an FFL. I also have filed paperwork with my local Sheriff's Office for a concealed carry. I buy a lot of reloading supplies off the internet. I have bought a number of guns off on-line auction sights and obtained them using an FFL. I have done so for years and have not run into anything that causes me to fear loosing my firearms unless I am convicted of a serious criminal offense.

Maybe you don't understand the scope of the nsa spying campaign, so let me set it straight now.

EVERY SINGLE THING POSTED ON THE INTERNET, EVERY SINGLE CALL, EVERY SINGLE EMAIL, EVERY SINGLE TEXT MESSAGE, ALL CORRESPONDANCE DONE ELECTRONICALLY IS RECORDED IN ITS ENTIRETY. FURTHER, EVERY KEYSTROKE ON YOUR COMPUTER IS RECORDED, EVERY WEBSITE YOU VISIT, NO MATTER HOW HIDDEN YOU THINK IT IS FROM YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY.
NO EXCEPTIONS, PERIOD.

While you may not believe this is possible, it is. This very discussion is being recorded. Now, a person does not see every piece of Intel that gets recorded, the manpower and time required is too monumental. It is all run through programs that search keywords, and then send anything that highlights on for people to look at. All is stored. So, if you are putting out things that get their attention, they can go back and look at everything you have done.
If you wonder how some high up people suddenly just step down unexpectedly, understand, nsa has dirt on us all, for they have everything we have ever done, for the last couple decades at least.

First off, if a ban with confiscation requirements passed, it would be law. As heinous as it might be, we would not condone breaking it. A far better alternative would be to get active and make sure such a law never passes. In the first place.

Second, nobody is truly anonymous on the internet. In most cases, it doesn't take a high-tech government spying program to find someone's online footprints. People post all sorts of identifying (and possibly incriminating) information on social media. This is nothing new.

If we have a particular NSA directive or program to discuss, by all means do so. If we're just bandying about general conspiracy, this thread will have to be closed.

Yes. If you really think that the NSA (or BATFE) is tracking normal handguns and semi-auto rifles we own via our IP addresses and stuff we say in this forum, then you're nuts. It just ain't happening. Here's why:

1. Anyone who claims this is going on has absolutely, positively no proof whatsoever of this. Try asking them for their proof. I could say: "President Obama gave me his personal Ruger Mark II before he became a senator" and I would have as much proof as people spouting off about NSA making lists of firearms people own based on IP addresses and forum posts.

2. It would be illegal. Not that this government is above doing things that are illegal; it's simply that they are terrible about keeping such things secrets. In other words, it would have leaked out by now and the NRA would be capitalizing on it for donations. (I'm a member of the NRA, so I can say this).

3. You can't just get a person's name from their IP. IP's change, so it makes no sense to collect gun data using IP's for some way-off future gun-grabbing event. And, if this were going on, everyone could just use TOR and other proxies.

4. It's a wast of resources to pay someone to collect this kind of data that can't be positively correlated with an individual without seeking court orders compelling ISPs to provide more detailed information to connect the IP address to an actual end user.

5. What the heck do you need IP addresses and internet forums for - just start knocking on the door of every American citizen and you have about a 25% chance of finding at least one firearm.

6. Every keystroke stored??? Let's see if anyone can figure out what keys I punched just before typing this sentence.

7. I'd be far more concerned about all of the 4473's I've filled out over the years; CCW application/license; ATF Form 1 and the ATF Form 4 that have my picture, finger prints address, etc. than I am about the NSA tracking me via the internet! OH CRAP, HERE'S ATF NOW, KICKING DOWN MY DOOR!:eek:

The fact that you have used the acronym "NSA" in this conversation ensures that it will be reviewed. It's one of the parsing algorithm's key words.

And my house is a gun free zone. ;)

And on that note...
