About a week ago my wife brought me a .38 Tarus Revolver for our anniversary.
Since it was a gift ,she purchased it in her name to kee it a secret from me.:)
The gunshop told her that we could go to a notary & have the pistol registered in my name or better word I guess is tranferred into my name.
We live in Texas [ Houston Area ] is this true ?
Will we need sales reciept & id only ?
Thanks in advance. :)

I don't know why you would even want or need to do that.

I guess if you're thinking of a divorce  - and of course no body would divorce a wife that gives guns for presents. :D

Just my .02

I have to agree with Don. Why spend time or money on paperwork for the state?? Just leave it as it is...what's hers is yers :)

:) yep not planning to get rid of her in this lifetime anyway for sure. lol
Just was thinking if carrying the pistol & was stopped ,it would be good to be in my name.
Or since we marrried , it shouldn't be a problem as is ?

Unless Texas law differs, federal law says you dont need a transfer between husband and wife and vice versa.

Husband and wife has nothing to do with it. If both parties are residents of the same state and not felons, mentally committed, etc, Federal law does not require anything between any two private parties.

Texas does not require anything between two private parties either. It would be a complete waste of time and money to get something notarized. Texas does not have gun registration. If they did have gun registration, there would be a procedure with government forms provided.

If you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY felt the need to document a transfer to the fullest extent possible, the correct course of action would be to take it to an FFL, fill out the 4473, get a NICS background check and pay the FFL his transfer fee to accomplish, again, absolutely nothing. Now the FFL has a 4473 on file and that's all it does.

The advice to go to a notary is complete B.S.

Enjoy the new gift!

I am. Some things are just not worth it.

Why ? Its now community property. Leave the state out of it...

Getting some kind of transfer document notarized would still be leaving the state out of it, it wouldn't accomplish anything with the state.
