Gun Finish

Don't know if it has ever been discussed,I'm sure somewhere in time it has. But what is your favorite gun finish? And do you always try to buy it? I started with Satin Stainless finishes and swore by that because of easy clean and low upkeep. But for some reason I only have two that way? I guess my tastes and thoughts have changed in time :)

I love the stainless look also, but ended up with the black finish on my Sig. I just don't really like the two tone finish on a metal gun. I can see it on a polymer gun, cause you can't give the polymer a different finish. But I don't understand why Sig can't give the alloy a nickle or stainless look or finish to match the slide.

Has anyone given the alloy an after-market finish to match the stainless or nickle slide?

Having said all that, I truely believe the finish on the gun is last in importance in my gun selection. I would rather have an ugly finish on my Sig, than the most beautiful finish on some piece of crap.(I won't name any names and risk offending someone :D)

PS I really want a large stainless *&* 357 mag like a buddy at work has. Forget what the gun can do, it just looks and feels sweet!!! :D And I do think there is a place for that in a collection.

I guess over time I've just taken the same approach. Don't buy the gun totaly for the looks but what caliber, and what its suppose to do. But looks do figure in in the end.My local shop owner showed me a King Cobra the other day which he purchased new, maybe 50 rounds through it, The blueing on that gun was absolutely beautiful,so was the price since he is selling off some of his personal stuff. :)

I've had Robar's NP3 and Metalife on Berettas; both worked great. Slick and tough, no problems after yrs of hard use. Looks like a matte stainless.

Hard to beat Tenifer, Nitron, stuff like that. Where Glock (Tenifer)/Beretta (chrome) shine is doing the interior dimensions of the bore; makes the barrels last mucho longer.

A good barrel w a RC in the 40s will go at least 50K rounds, the Beretta/Glock can easily double that. Not the best for accuracy though.

Posted a similiar thread in the smithy column but no one goes there. Which one to get Black t, rogaurd, Metacol III, or are there any other choices that I should consider. Want a nice finish like a Colt Python, Cobra, Dan Wesson. Nice polished blue/black.

I seem to go through cycles where I buy guns with royal blue finish and, in the case of rifles, beautiful wood stocks. Then I sell them and buy "ugly" guns. Right now the prettiest gun I have is the Kimber Stainless Gold Match. All the others are ugly.

I'm a traditionalists on this one, make mine blue or even black. I just can seem to develope the feeling for stainless steel in my guns.
