Pretty much like the decision to use chemical weapons. During WWII all sides had chemical weapons. No one wanted to be the first to use them.

cause it is such a polarizing, hot issue

i expect Al Gore to trot out something MMM based if it looks like his election possibilities are waivering

Mommies will follow Opra & Rosie to the polls
and vote in Al Gore

But what is a major industry in Joe Lieberman's home state?

I would expect gun control to be discussed in the last debate. (The "town hall" style one.) I can hardly wait for Mr. Fascist to explain himself.

Can I repeat your quote:

No doubt the crying woman's child was enrolled late in school because he had to help his mother collect aluminum cans so she could afford her prescription drugs. Because he was late enrolling and there were not enough desks in the classroom, the child was forced to stand in the back of the room, putting him in the line of fire when the camouflage-wearing, pickup truck-driving, rights defender wearing the NRA cap arrived and started firing his plastic, semi-automatic, "assault" pistol loaded with cop killer bullets.

A sad story to be sure. And one that would fit in perfectly with all of Al Gore's other lies.

I heard that it was going to come up in the second debate, but this may not be factual. We'll have to watch to find out if it indeed comes up.

straightShot,

Where did you hear that??

Has Gore said HOW he would make states license and photo ID gun owners?? Does his plan call for fingerprints?

I looked for info at his site (YUCK), but I didn't see anyting about HOW he would do this infringment.

My guess is that both candidates will avoid gun control like the plague.

Bush needs to increase his share of women many of whom are traditionally for more gun control. However, the majority of them don't consider it a major issue and will probably ignore it unless it gets thrown in their face

Gore needs to increase his share of males - many of whom support gun rights - particularly in the states he needs to win. He'll shut up and hope that he can divide gun owners between "gun-nut NRA-types" and "normal hunters and sport shooters". He doesn't wish to discuss the issue any more than Bush does.

Gore has too many gun-totin' democrats in key states. Bush is doing just fine without bringing up gun rights so why do it? Most likely we will hear of a question during the last debate. If the polls open up a Bush lead look for Gore to pull out all stops. He'll use gun control to energize his base, fear-monger the rest of us, and go down fighting. It is almost like ClintonGore administration is working against some kind of time deadline.

Watch the polls and listen for gun control. These two will tell you how much trouble Gore is in.

Sounds like we're all in agreement. Gore will probably leave the argument to his surrogates and the media. For example, today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran an editorial on the candidates's positions on crime, and gun control in particular. They used the info from the VPC "study" that showed that Texas CCW permit holders were 66% more likely to commit a crime with a gun than the average citizen. Huh?

Agreed: The big anti states of New York, California and Mass. are uncontested. The contested states are a bit more gun reasonable. Perhaps, in the last debate, Gore will bring to the stage someone that was shot while picking up cans. Maybe it can be a minority person of a less popular sexual bent and then they get a two for one. Yes, rather than attempted murder being a "love" crime, it would be a "hate" crime. Sometimes, upon waking, I really wonder if I dare open my eyes.
