Hello everybody. I took my mossberg out today and it was snowing. I was afraid of rust developing inside the gun where snow could have gotten and I stripped it all down and oiled it real good. Was this necessary? I didn't shoot anything just had it with me while in the woods. Should I continue this habit of oiling every component of the firearm when out in the snow? Oh and btw, Happy Holidays everybody

If it came in contact with the snow I would give it some care but not beyond the basic field strip. I have moved away from petroleum based products and use Frog Lube. Read the reviews on the internet and decide for yourself. I have been very pleased so far with its preservative and lubrication effects. You did the right thing by your firearm. Also remember there is often moisture on the metal just coming in from the cold that could turn to rust.
'Most-all Mossberg Shotguns that I know of have aluminum receivers, so moisture is not that much of a worry anyway. The biggest problem may be where moisture could come up against a steel part in the gun and cause it to rust.
Another thing that you can do is to open the action and hit it for a few minutes with a blow dryer. That can tend to drive moisture out of places that you cannot get to, or maybe even see.

I use ballistol which is supposed to make moisture like that which you describe a non-issue.
Still, I refresh the lube on my firearms at least monthly. it's probably overkill, but I just like doing it.
The best is to do what you think is right, if you feel that there's some moisture in there you need to get rid of, by all means get rid of it. you'll feel better for having done it, you'll be more familiar with your weapon, and you'll have spent a few minutes enjoying it.
