Gun buybacks

As stupid as they are, these gun "buyback" programs are becoming popular with the anti-gun organizations. They even had one here a couple months ago. Apparantly they usually pay fifty dollars (tax payer dollors of course) or give some sort of vouchers, tickets, etc. for turned in firearms, "no questions asked". I have shopped around and have rarely found any functional firearm for sale for fifty bucks and never for the value of a pair of movie tickets.

I have an idea. Assuming all laws are complied with, would there be any problem with visiting one of these "buy backs" and holding a sign saying "I will pay $75 (or some other greater amount than the buy back is offering) for good legal firearms"? Of course my purchase would involve questions, like "are you the legal owner of this?" or "is this stolen". If figure this my find me a good deal on something and save tax dollars at the same time. Someone with an FFL could have a good opportunity to make decent profits in such a situation.

I didn't say I was planning on doing it, it's just an idea. Any thoughts on this?

The anti's would likely shoot you, but I say, if it's legal, then why not? Just be ready to be set-upon, searched, and screwtinized by your local constabulary.
A day that we raise their blood pressure can't be all bad.

RHarris - There a many past threads on other boards where folks with a similar idea attempted or successfully pulled off such a caper.

I think it's a great idea, and if done legally, would be both a thorn if the anti's butts and could reward you with a cache of decent firearms (broomhandle mauser for $50!!).

I say go for it.

Hell, offer them $5 over the going rate. The dimbulbs who will sell a good handgun in a buyback will jump at the extra Big Money.
Probably even $1 would work with some. :)

Hmm. Come to think of it, you and your friends could show up in a tag-team type of thing. As soon as one of you is shooed away, 5 mins. later another citizen buyback pops up.

This will probably make the antis call for a close to the "buyback loophole".

Forget the cash. Offer Beanie Babies in trade. The rubes'll be thrilled. And you'll have money left over for ammo.

We have a few gun-buybacks a year that we protest. One of the protesters is the owner of a small gun store, and he sets up shop outside the building hosting the buyback and offers to buy the guns that people bring. This really annoys the antis, but they have not yet been able to do anything about it! :D

It's a good idea, and yes, this has been done.

Do a search in TFL (probably General Discussion or Legal and Political) for the user name RickD - he's done it in the Phoenix area. They donated the firearms to our state game and fish dept. for training, and also got some good press out of it. Not to mention the ulcers they were giving the anti-self defense gun bigots. ;)
