I want a scout rifle in 35 whelen.
i like the remington 600's but they dont make the rifle anymore.
the remington XP100 is basicly a remington 600 in a long pistol (14 and 1/2")
can i get a xp100 in 35 remington, rechamber for 35 whelen, add an answer muzzlebreak to make the BBL 16 and 1/2" then drop the thing into a full stock.
what part of this wont work?

Since the .35 Whelen is a necked-up '06, my first question would be whether there is enough metal to to allow safe reaming. I just dunno.

Adding a muzzle brake is quite legal. After that, I haven't a clue if BATF would regard changing the stock as making a "manufacturing" change in the gun.

Why not check out some gun shows for a halfway clean 600? Then, a simple rebarrelling would do the job. Since you'd be changing barrels, prior abuse wouldn't be much of an issue, other than about price.

unless you're planning a single shot, neither conversion will work...the action isn't long enough. however all is not lost, the action used to be chambered for the 350 rem mag.

you just need to settle on a shorter case lenght

If you have to have the Remington action then consider making it in .358 Winchester. I t will fit in a short action. It might be better to base your rifle on a Savage 110 scout if that is available in the long action.

the last time i even saw a 600 for sale in 350 rm it was 1700 bucks. they seem to have a cult following.
it makes me consider selling my scout 600 in 308 and just buying a styer in 376.
where did all the non magnum mid 30 cal's go?
my scout now is a 600 that was customized from a 350. it had holes cut in the action to lighten it and then was reBBLed w/ a cryo treated 18.5" 308 BBL. the whole thing was tefloned in black and a burris 1.5X scout IER added w/ a gunsite ching sling and flush sling swivels like the JC scout from styer. OA length is 37.25". trigger breaks at 30oz. the gun is great i just want a mid 30 cal in the same type rifle. i should probably just reBBL it for 35 whelen or 376.

scout

Use a model 7 Rem action or an older 600 in 243 or 308 and rebarrel to 358 Win.The Whelen will NOT fit

i found a remington 600 w/ vented rib in 243 in 98% condition.
its a shame to waste a good 243 BBL. what could it be worth?
who does great reBBL work?

Dunno about "98%", but I've seen 600s in the $350 range at gunshows in the last year or two. Struck me as high, but everything else does, as well...

There are beaucoup barrel makers out there; you'll just have to look at ads on the Web and in the gunzines. Try looking in Shotgun News and Gun List, as well. For local installation, etc., you'll just have to ask around your area.

You might repost the question about barrels in the "Smithy" Forum.

Keep the .243 barrel; you might change your mind, or sell it to somebody who wants to change away from .308, etc.
