Most people will tell you there is no reason to put a full length guide rod in a 1911. If you do get one, the two-piece ones are easier to manage.

I have a two piece now on my Springfield and it keeps coming loose Ive used Plumber tape but sick of doing that thats why I am leary of getting another two piece one..

A drop of gun-tite when you reassemble will help. Mine comes slightly loose after 50-100 rounds or so, but causes no problems. I tighten it back up. As stated, the worth of a full-length guide rod is debatable, whether it's one or two pieces.

I actually disagree about the two piece rods. Both of my 1911's have a one piece rod, and they're as easy to field strip as a standard guide rod. I also don't have to tinker around with trying to keep the two piece rod from falling apart when I'm shooting. Truthfully, I've never understood why anyone would want a two piece rod for a full sized 1911. I don't do the compact 1911 trick, so my comments probably don't apply to those models.

The story of a full length guide costing you your life in a defensive situation is crap. If you have to disassemble your firearm in any defensive situation, you're dead to begin with.

If you had the time to remove the bushing plug, bushing, slide, etc. then you have time to run.
