Guide Gun recoil pad

Has anyone installed a different recoil pad on their Guide Gun? The Marlin factory pad is not much fun after a day at the range. I am looking at the pachmayr declerators, but I don't know what size to get. I want something I can just slap on and not have to worry about fitting. Anyone made the replacement?

Thanks,

I don't think there's a ready-made version available, like Pachmayr markets for shotguns.

I installed a Decelerator on mine and it definitely softens the blow, although there's no getting around the basic physics here!

I have installed these on a number of guns without refinishing the stock. I could go on in more detail, but basically what you can do is put masking tape or duct tape over the stock and sand to/into the tape without going through it. You wind up with a *very* thin line of excess pad, but it is something you only detect by feel, not sight. IMO you need a bench sander to do this, and even then it requires good light and a very steady hand. Let me know if you want a little more detail on this.

Its almost impossible to just slap a pad on any gun.The length of pull may be altered, and the lines on the stock can't possibly match a out of the pkg pad.I had a decererator pad installed on my guide gun last year. The pachmayer pad is far better than the 2.00 piece of rubber most makes use.I don't know where you live, but most competant gunsmiths will only charge $25.00-$30.00 (labor) to do a nice job. After seeing dozens of botched jobs, trust me,if you really want a presentable looking gun, spend a few more bucks for a proffesional job.
