Guess what I brought home today?

Got a nice fat check today, but I'm on a budget, so I went out looking. Went to a local shop, they didn't have much. Went out to Gander Mountain, and ended up coming home with a used Remington 7400 wood furniture, iron sights, in .30-'06, an extra magazine, a sling (I don't think it'll fit on the swivel studs, though, consern it) and three boxes of UMC ammo. Total was about $500. It's not what I pictured myself buying, BUT...I can always save up for that FAL and/or Garand later. I've got myself a nice, powerful rifle for the time being.

Now, tell me about those 10-round magazines? Where can I get them? I've heard that one kind is crap, but the other is okay? These are just for plinking, mind you.

Accessories

Here are some accessories I'm thinking of for this rifle. Recommendations and opinions are welcome.

-Mounted folding bipod.
-Scope mount (I already have a Simmons 4x scope collecting dust in my closet, brand new).
-10 round magazines. I've heard the Eagle mags are junk, so I'll get the USA Magazines ones from Cheapter Than Dirt. I've used USA brand AR magazines before and they worked well enough for me.

Hey, congrats on the purchase! Practice mucho...

Remember, trendy flash and the latest gear will NEVER replace clean technique. Got a pic?

If you don't have one yet, make sure you get the chamber cleaning tool and keep that chamber clean. The 7400 needs a clean chamber to function reliably. I have seen the 10 round mags in brownells.

thanks for the tips!

I have a good wire brush in my cleaning kit and will make sure the chamber gets plenty of attention.

What is the method of operation in the 7400? Is it recoil operated?

Sorry, no pic. Just bought it today. It's just a run-of-the-mill Rem 7400 24" .30-'06 with wood furniture, though.

' I've heard the Eagle mags are junk, so I'll get the USA Magazines ones '

I thought the USA mags were the junk mags

I'm waiting for the chance to buy a Rem. 7600 pump rifle (no semi-auto's here in Aus.) and searched through the archives here on TFL and it seems most people don't trust USA mags...

Anyway, if you get either Eagle or USA mags can you detail the reliabiltiy?

I foolishly bought 8 Eagle 10 round mags.

The wanker who sold them to me wasn't interested when (a) they didn't fit witout removing lumps of plastic off the front, and (b) they didn't feed.

Try here for 10 round steel mags.

Don't let the name of the website fool you. This is a 7400 page. Check out the other things they do too.

Bowser.

Rem 7400 is gas operated. Chamber cleanliness is critical for reliable operation in my 7400 carbine (30-'06 also). The triple K 10 round mags function just fine in my rifle. Note that the action will close when you remove the empty mag (watch you fingers). As I mainly use the rifle for hunting I normally use ther factory 4 rd mags. If you reload stay with moderate bullet weights (150 - 180), powders (mine likes IMR 4895 and 4064) and velocities.

Bowser?

That link you gave me won't load. CTD is sold out of 10-rounders right now, too, so I'd really be interested in another soure of 10 round magazines for my .30-'06 Rem 7400.

CDNN

CDNN has only the Eagle magazines, which according to one poster above, would be a simple waste of money.

An Accuracy Systems, the company Bowser linked to, is currently out of stock, and their rep told me they're looking at ten to fifteen days before they get more, because the company that made them went out of business.
