Guess what I bought (hint: East German!)

Right! My East German Makarov came in from SOG today. I ordered it right when everyone was posting reports of how wonderful their hand pick EG's were. After I ordered, others posted horror stories about SOG and the quality of their hand pick guns. Whew! Mine's nice! I did not have time to look it over with great care (I was on lunch break) but when I looked it over superficially I saw no wear to the finish. This gun is 39 years old and it shows no wear. The barrel looks fine too, although maybe a little dirty in the grooves and not oily enough to shine. Finally, it's trigger is very smooth. I especially like the double action pull, smooth and relatively light. Both single and double action pulls feature a fair amount of creep but I paid less than $200 for the gun so what can I expect? As usual, it came with a spare magazine, a spare set of grips, and a shoulder holster. I'll post a range report when I can, and I'll let everyone know the results of a more detailed inspection. Meanwhile, does anyone know where I can find a trigger lock for this gun? I hope you're laughing. That was a joke. :)

Trigger locks won't work on Maks. U have to weld the slide and the mag to the frame. Just to be safe, I wud also braze a bead along the trigger too.

Maks are great little guns. I have a Chinese Norinco Mak, and those things are worth three times their asking price. Congratulations on your EG Mak, you'll never trade or sell it.

If you seriously want to lock the Mak, you'd have to get one of the long cable locks that Glock includes with factory new guns...the kind that goes through the ejection port and magazine well.

When I received my EG makarov, I went out and bought a Bulgarian version the very next day. Didn't want to wear out my 1962 Stasi mak. It would have been perfect in the glove compartment of the trabant I owned when I worked in Leipzig in 1993. Another classic east German product!

Congrats on the purchase :) Still have not been able to get mine out yet :( Maybe tomorrow. I'm also aching to buy a new version. I seen a Special Edition Arsenal at a gun show last week. Don't know what the difference was.
Well any way Good Luck and Happy Shooting :)

Glockdoc, I also, recently, bought one of these jewels. Mine is about 99% but has a little surface pitting. This thing worked every time and was very accurate. I thought the trigger was quite good in both single and double action modes. I did change the grips to Pearce but wish I had gone to Makarov.com as they have wood grips which I prefer. I plan to have it dehorned, Novak sights put on it, and reblued. What do I plan then? Years of service from this piece. Regards, Richard.

As I have said before. I like still like my Russian Mak. :)

A Trabant? A buddy got me a toy one shortly after the wall went down. It has so many sharp edges I don't know how on earth East German kids could've played with the thing. I need a real one, however.

I love my Bulgie Mak, but these things are like Pokemon, gotta get them all! I'm saving for a Russian, EG and eventually I hope to find a Norinco. Gotta get them all!

So many pistols, so little money.

I had one of the first East german Maks that came into the country some years ago and it served me as a carry gun throughout much of college when cash was in short supply. Great gun! Well made, surprisingly good trigger pull, respectably accurate and 100% reliable.

Not too long back I sold it to a buddy because I had so many "better" carry guns now and hadn't used teh mak in quite a while. I've regretted teh decison ever since :(, although my buddy is very happy with it!
