The makers stamp is probably on the left side of the receiver, under the wood, which is where some makers of commercial carbines stamped them.

it isn't a military issue m1 carbine
if i would guess i would say its a universal
or it could be IMI
all m1 carbines i have seen are marked on the rear heal and usually the rear sites cover the manufacturers stamp and hide it from veiw

I wonder if that's where one of the largest makers of M1 Carbines "Underwood" got their name......................sorry, couldn't resist.

Probably a kit carbine that people used to put together in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Some of the kits did not have markings to identify who made them BUT most of the parts came from old military surplus supplies. I know one guy where I live who used to get parts from gun shows and slam them together to sell a carbine for a profit.

Carried a M2 in Korea some years back, over 50 come to think of it. Definitely not military, and as previous posters stated as possibilities could be anyone of them.

Here's a Universal I've had since mid 70's

Looks like a Universal to me, but without seeing the markings it is hard to say. Definitely not a military M1 Carbine.
