GSSF Question. . .

All:

I consider myself a newbie. I have had my first pistol, a Glock 32, for about a year now. Do you all think that a complete newbie like me should join the GSSF? Is that wise? or would I just embarrass myself?

What are the advantages to joining?

Thanks!

B

the advantages to joining are having a great time shooting at the matches!!! i've been shooting GSSF for 2 years and love it. i shot my first match only about a month after i got my first glock. i finished towards to bottom of C class and had a wonderful time at the match. you'll meet tons of great people at the match and have such a great time shooting you won't even care how well you do. besides even if you think you did poorly you still might have a chance at winning something in C class. look at the GSSF forum at glocktalk.com and ask the experts over there any more questions you might have about it. even if you have some doubts about going to a match just at least go and check out one of them, i guarantee you'll love it. also when you join u get a cool hat, a years issues of the Glock Report, the Glock Annual for free when it comes out and some other stuff.

From everything I have ever heard, it is really fun. You get access to a Glock armorer, hang around others in shooting sports, and shoot in an environment that is not overly competitive. No reason to be self-conscience.
Personally, I think anybody would learn a lot in that atmosphere. No matter what your skill level, there is something to be learned by watching others and asking questions. That seems to be my attitude no matter what I am doing, though.
As for embarrasing yourself, I guess that has to do with your mindset. I'm sure some people can be embarassed in the most relaxed, friendly atmosphere. You have to walk before you can run.

MY GOD YESSS!!!!!

GSSF was created to give Glock shooters new and old the chance to compete.

The events are set up yo just have fun plane and simple. My first event I was all in a ruffle and had the shaky hands. After about 10 minutes of talking with fellow shooters and hitting those plates I was hooked.

Seriously, I think GSSF is geared towards getting all levels of shooters together for a good time. You should not worry about not being good enough. You will get there and quickly see that there are many people there a few levels under you. Can you imagine that?:)

Even if your the most horrible shot in the world you have a good chance of winning a new Glock.

Go and have fun.

I beleive there is a seperate event for compensated pistols but I am not exactly sure.

As far as your gun gos it pretty much has to be totally stock.

The GSSF matches are a lot of fun. You don't need to be good. The top shooter wins a pistol, the next 9 win money. Then they split the field into 3rds (or 4ths depending on the turnout), 1st shooter in the 2nd third(B class) wins a pistol, next 9 win money. Same for the next third(C class). If you're lucky you might be 1st in B or C class.

Lightsped, a 19c shoots in competition class unless you put a non-ported barrel in it. Competition class is still amateur but they only give prizes for the top 3 or 4 shooters. You would also be shooting against the Glock 34's, 35's, and other longslide models.

The on site armorers are a great benefit too. I took an old G17 and asked them to check it as I had heard there was an upgrade. He replaced the entire trigger assembly, striker, extractor, and extractor bearing. NO charge. I also asked them to check an old full capacity magazine. I told him it worked fine, it had just gotten very easy to load, was the spring weak? He replaced the spring and put in the newest type follower, again NO charge.

Go forth and Compete! it is great fun.
I am looking forward to shooting another, I was a sometime IPSC shooter who tried a match a few years ago and won 3rd overall stock class. That plus a 2nd finish in the timed funshoot earned me a total of $175. It is the only prizes Ive gotten anywhere except Vegas.

The GSSF events are family oriented. You have the opportunity to meet some of the top glock shooters in the country, and they are all happy to help other shooters get better. The majority of the participants shoot GSSF for the fun & camaraderie of being around those with similiar interests. I've shot in 4 events from low C class to high B, and won money in both. Can't think of anywhere else you can have a great time, and still have to chance to win prizes, regardless of how well you shoot on a particular day. And the availability of free services from a glock armorer is more than worth the entry, all by itself. Check out www.gssfonline.com, and go over to the GSSF forum at www.glocktalk.com for more information. Hope to see you at a match....
