Grips and accessories that cover the s/n?

I was thinking about modifying a pair of grips to keep my hands from riding the slide. I plan on taking the grips off and putting a piece of tape on the gun; then putting the grips on and extending the back part with JB Weld. I would still be able to take the grips off, but was wondering if it would bring legal problems to me?

No legal issues. The law says "obliterated, or modified." It doesn't say covered up. Many grips cover serial numbers.

JB Weld is for Bubbas. You can find Hogue, Pachmyer, or Uncle Mike's in a grip config. to do what you're trying to do.

I think the Crimson Trace Lasergrips for J-frames cover the serial number. They wouldn't have designed them that way if it was illegal.

To get to SS#'s on some Ruger revolvers, you have to remove the grips. No prob. As long as the serial number still exists, and hasn't been altered- as MaxHeadSpace said.
