grip with a large-ish backstrap for a 642?

I'm having some trouble getting a good grip on my 642. If I grip it high, its really the 2nd part of my finger that wind up on the trigger, not the first. It has been suggested that a grip with a large backstrap should help me fit the gun better. I would prefer however that it remain relatively thin and not a "sticky" rubber material to keep it concealable and easily pulled from a pocket. Any suggestions for other grips I should be looking at?

To help iillustrate the problem in the first picture you'll see that if I grip it properly my finger rides in on the trigger way too far, if I fix my finger position on the trigger, I have to drop my grip way too much

I suggest a Pachmayr grip. You have larger hands. So do I. The Butler Creek boot grips and Pachmayr Compac grips do not fit me well either. I chose Pachmayrs rosewood and rubber square butt conversion grips. They are about it short of custom grips.

Not to change the theme, of this thread but I believe you would be much happier if the grip's you are looking for have more wood in the FRONT rather than the rear of the grip. The reason for this is if you are having problems with over travel placement of your finger the wood placed in the front of the grip will eliminate this and at At the same time a shorter back strap area of wood will allow better sight placement and control for shooting. This will allow better ten ring scores as well with increased comfort from recoil. the grip's I have shown will allow all I have mentioned and are NOT a wide grip so conceil well also. let me know if you want them as I have offered to you at the price mentioned in our E-mails.. I've been spoiled by the fit of my P99 so maybe I'm not understanding it right, but as I sit here holding the gun with my finger too far in the trigger it seems like there are two ways to fix the problem. A thicker grip would pull my hand out further, a wider backstrap would force my hand out further too. If the front strap were increased it seems like it would lead to my lower three fingers wrapping around the grip less which I could see being good for comfort, but I don't see how it would effect the trigger fingers placement. Am I dense?
 
What you are not seeing is that filling in behind the trigger guard will automatically lower your grip. This will angle your finger down and lower your palm. What I am suggesting is a much larger, fatter and fuller and longer grip for your pinky to rest on. I am happy with my larger Pachmayr rubber/rosewood grip. It doesn't do for pocket carry though. I have a similar problem in that I shoot a 1st generation S&W 640 with size 10 to 10-1/2 hands.

I've found that using a pair of Pachmyer Presentation Grips designed for a S&W J-frame provides me with much of the needed filler material between the back strap and my hand to allow acceptable trigger finger placement. They also add some material in front of the grip by means of memory grooves all while keeping the entire grip fairly narrow. There is also a slight palm swell in these grips that I find make them fairly comfortable. Even though these grips are made of a synthetic material I do not find them to be sticky.

Like SIR WILLIAM related in an earlier message, these grips are designed to feel like a square butt conversion grip. (This is actually very much to my liking and I only wish I could find a manufacturer that made these in solid fancy wood.)

Well these are not the perfect grips for my hand... they have to do until I can find a nice pair of custom grips.
