grip question

Ok , I am setting here and holding 2 pieces of beautiful horn material, 1 elk and 1 carabo both will make beautiful grips. i plan on useing the elk horn on a springfield 1911 and the carabo on a ruger mark 2.
now my question. I have never worked with horn material and would like some advise on this.

Sandpaper and a Dremel tool!

I agree, have fabricated several myself and found that sandpaper and Dremel work best
