Grip pod

Hello:

I just ordered a RRA operator2 AR. This is my first AR. I would like to get a military type grip-pod. I understand that companies make cheap immatations, however, I want want to purchase the original, military grade grip pod.

Where can I purchase one? Does anyone know what website have the best price?

Please advise.
Thanks!

I love mine. Bought it off of ebay for $39. I shoot with the bipod deployed off the bench or ground quite a bit. Easy to take off or put on. Whats not to like.

I would advise you to get your rifle and shoot it for a couple of hundred rounds before you go adding anything to it.

Especially a forward grip/bipod.

Forward grips are somewhat useful when firing full-auto but in my experience they are almost useless in semiauto.

They also get in the way, get hung up on gear/cover and keep you from really getting low, you should see some of the contortions people try to go through to use them. It can be quite amusing at times.:D

Why do you want the forward grip?

You either got a really good deal or a counterfeit Grippod. The genuine Grippods typically run $75+ for the LE model (no steel inserts reinforcing the legs) and around $100 for the military polymer version.

Whats not to like.

1. The best place to mount a bipod is often not the best place to mount a vertical grip.

2. The Grippod is mediocre as a bipod since it only does one height.

3. As a vertical grip it is way longer than you need in a vertical grip and can be a problem with barricades.

Having said that, if you are willing to accept those limitations and want both products in a package, the Grippod is very handy - and you'd have a hard time finding a bipod that weighs less than 8oz, let alone a bipod + vertical grip at that weight.

Here is a good discussion about using vertical grips on an AR that describes where they are handy for semi-auto use.

You are using it as a handstop. That is cheating.:D

I agree it is very useful for that. But I wouldn't use a full length forward grip for that. I would use something much smaller/shorter.

I tried the AFG but I didn't like it.

It only helps ME when I am on my hind legs shooting fast as it gives me something to really jam that rifle into my shoulder with. I don't shoot like that very much.

I had one on my rifle and got rid of it. If you want a vertical grip and/or handstop, there are better options that have better ergonomics and length/weight. If you want a bipod because the rifle is actually going to be used for distance shooting, I'd put a real bipod on it...

YMMV.

Correct.

I bought one of the authentic ones (steel legs) off of the equipment exchange on one of the AR forums. It was tough as hell, tried to stand on my AR to bend the legs and could not. The spring mechanism was very, very powerful when deployed. I tried it for a couple of months and concluded it was just ok. 1) It is very long for a verticle grip. 2) because it is fixed-no swivel like a bipod, your angles are not the best. I went back to a short vert grip on my DD. PM me if you are interested in mine.

Grip pods kind of suck... I used one in the marines, the only thing I liked about it was that it was handy when you wanted to set your rifle down and keep it out of the dirt.... Can't believe the marines actually issued those things. Well actually they issue lots of stupid ****. Politics i guess.

Also like Crow Hunter said, why do you want a foregrip? to look cool? In my experience using a foregrip is harder to keep on target. Only benefit in my opinion is if your using some kind of pointer/illuminator it gives you a place to mount a nice pressure switch. but I don't think your'e using one...

I know the difference between the fake and the original. Mine is the LE model not the more expensive model. It was a great deal thats why I bought it. I watched that video way back when I bought the grippod just to make sure it was the real deal. Im a big guy 6'3'' 220lbs and I have big hands. Another reason I like the grippod. Those short vertical grips just look funny to me, plus I can get all of my hand on the grippod. I cant do that with the stubby ones. If I dont want to shoot with it, it comes off with no problem. I think its a great bipod-grip combo.

I agree with Bamashooter, I use my GPS some of the time on my carbine. No way I would want a Harris or other full size bipod on it. It's a 30 second R&R job. Those short vertical grips are about worthless for me. A bud gave me his MIL model when he returned from the sand box.
