There is an ad in July handguns magazine(page 24). They are made in south africa. Come with night sights. $499 list price. Phone # (817) 284-7474. They are out of Fort Worth Texas. Don't know anything about the gun though other than the ad.

The Griffon is a Commander sized 1911 pistol made of all steel except for the aluminum Videki type triger. It has 8 ports machined into the slide, which I do not like in a defense gun as you never know when you will have to shoot from the hip or close to the body.If that happens you can get powder burns or worse, powder/bullet particles in your eyes. It has a full length recoil rod, short Commander barrel bushing, flared/lowered ejection port, beaver tail grip safety, black rubber grips, and black teflon finish. It comes with 3 dot tritium night sights. Front is red rear are green. It is interesting to note that the barrel is not ported so I do not know what real purpose the slide ports serve. It has a 6 lbs trigger and extended thumb safety. Personally I do not like to buy the first year model for any new car or especially from a new pistol/manufacter. I have had enough trouble top line manufacturers who have been in business from many years. My first S&W, first Colt Trooper MkIII and first Detonics all had to be returned to the company for repairs. I also had a Colt Commander that new from the factory sometimes whould not fire and after two trips to the factory returned it because they did not find the problem. It would do this (hammer would not drop) once every 50 to 100 rounds. Guess the factory only fired it 20 or 30 times and it worked so they figured there was no problem.Lucky I bought it from a gun dealer who took it back for an exchange for a new one. Something that would not happen if I bought it through the mail.
Lately, for all you 1911 fans I just found out that, according to Bill Wilson, that you should not let the slide slam back on an empty chamber. Rough on the extractor and sear.
