Anybody able to compare the 350-450 dollar 1911's? the griffen and CD seem to have a little better finish or sites than some of the cheapest models from the big companies with the deeper model lines. Any thoughts? Llama's I've heard nothing good about so no need to comment on those unless you could possibly compare to one of these.

Have heard good things about the Firestorm - Some positive and some negative things about the Charles Daly. If you can find a Norinco have heard good things about them. If you want a .45 and don't care if it is a 1911 design you might look at a CZ in .45

Good Luck.

PS you might try a search on www.deja.com do a Power search through rec.guns forum

I think Firestorm is actually LLama. Of all the ones you said; I can't recommend any...I used to work for a national gun store and the three you've mention had all come in for fixing. With the $350-$450 range, you should have no trouble getting a used Norinco ($250-$350), Springfield ($350-$400), or even a Colt Series 80 ($400-$450). You just have to negotiate. Most 1911-1991 advertised you can go $50-$100 below asking price. I've bought Colt Gold Cups for $450 before and Springfield for $350. 6 months ago I passed up a Norinco Custom for $280. Just look around, I'm sure you'll find one soon...DON'T RUSH it will cost you.
