Grenades

Ok, what is the legality of grenades?

The reason I ask, is that in the latest flyer I got from Ammunition Store, they have smoke grenades advertised for $39.

I would suspect that explosive grenades are under control of the NFA, but what about things such as smoke, or tear gas, or something like a flashbang?

well if the ammuniton store isnt in your state I would check state and local ordinaces.. I know many municipalities restrict fireworks n stuff.....

Do either of you guys know the status of the DD registry?

I know the MG registry has been illegally closed off to civilian registration since 1986(it's sole purpose is just a tax though:rolleyes: ), I was wondering if the same is true of the DD registry? I know that all other classes of NFA items(suppressors), and weapons(sbr, sbs, and aow's excluding MG) can be made and registered by a civilian, but have no knowledge of DD registry status. . Would be nice to have an M203 to play with, but at $200 dollars+price per unit of the 203 rounds/shot, only Uncle Sam, or Bill Gates could afford to shoot one very often. Makes the damn .50 cal Barrets seem down right ecinomical to shoot:D .

Smoke grenades are like brass knuckles or fireworks, you may be able to buy them but will get in trouble for possessing them. I have one friend who got a felony charge for a smoke grenade. He beat it but not without a cost and lots of frustration.

Hmm. Never thought about it, but I can't see where there'd be problem for just possessing a smoke grenade. I keep a military smoke grenade (orange) on my boat for emergencies. Much better than the commercial smoke pots. The Coast Guard did a safety check on the Ohio River a couple of years back. They looked at it, but didn't say anything. They did gig me for a 1" tear in my PFD's outer covering  .

Don't want to usurp the thread, but I didn't badge 'em. I'm not sure how they operate around the country, but this bunch is notorious. They pull your boat over and board for a random safety check. I've no problem with that, but they look in every nook & cranny of your boat, with or without your permission, and they aren't even close to polite while they're doing it. I could understand a citation for no fire extinguisher, overloading, improper fume venting, etc., but a one inch tear in one (of three) of the nylon coverings of my PFD's is hardly going to affect its buoyancy, and I'm extremely meticulous about my boat and safety equipment. Among boaters around here, these guys are about as popular as Ted Kennedy at an NRA convention.

I'm sure though, as I think about it, that this is one of those deals similar to bad cops, in that a few can make the rest look bad, and I'm looking at it from the other side (which is a good thing ;) ). I do hope, though, that the rest of you CG guys can smile & have a sense of humor while you're writing & citing ;) :D .

Never dealt with the CG before, as much as I am on the Great Lakes.

More worried about heading the opposite way when the DNR boats show up, though.
