Great Western Gun Show Las Vegas - Was it a Bust?

I just spoke to several guys (one which had a couple of tables) who indicated that the Great Western Gun Show in Las Vegas as far as they were concerned was a flop???

This show in Vegas was the result of the Los Angeles County ban on Gun Shows at the Pomona Fairgrounds in So. Calif. It was suppose to be even bigger, but the guys I spoke to said that having it in Vegas was not a smart thing to do because people were spending their $$ playing the games instead of purchaing at the show.

I was planning on going, but something came up which did not allow me to go.

Anybody hear the same bad stuff, or anything different???

As far as I was concerned, it was pretty good. The walk between the two show rooms was pretty far though, and I had only gotten 3 hours of sleep, so I was sore. I found a good deal on a Colt 1911, so I'm satisfied. My biggest gripe would be the outrageous prices for drinks, but that's not really the gun shows fault. If you ask me, it was pretty darn big.

It was almost TOO big, and I'm an inveterate gun show attendee. The second room looked to be the overflow area and had more flea market stuff with a few guns sprinkled here and there. Parking was $5 and admission was $10. Free to active military. NRA memberships were $10 off, plus you got a discount on the admission. Maybe these were "loss leaders", but a nice touch in any event.

I saw a lot of quality antiques and Winchesters, and enjoyed the show from that standpoint alone. They had a neat display of some armoured vehicles and one artillery piece for sale. Kinda weird, saw more Jap Arisakas there, in every form, than I have ever seen in one place before.

I think those who are complaining are the Kalifornia dealers who had Kalifornia prices on their goods and expected everyone to shell out, no questions asked.

Saw a quite a lot of Kalif tags in the parking lot, so Pomona missed out on a fair amount of bucks.

Ammo prices were good though.

One schmuck dealer had Ace of Spades playing cards with "Merchant of death" on them spread all over his table. Not swift at all.

I think as the novely of playing the slots wears off, the show will settle down.

The next show is Sept. 15-17.
